Need a new clutch, and have a brand new MU 1947 CON FE in my possession. I am planning to install it in my truck tomorrow. Got a good deal on it so I snagged it, but wonder if I need an OFE instead. I use my truck for towing in my Auto Transport business 98% of the time. Quite often this means towing pretty dang heavy, 23K plus. Will an FE be too grabby for me? I figure without the methanol my current mods have me at around 550 hp, with the Methanol a bit more. The posts I have researched on his topic just leave me confused. My main need in all of this is a great clutch for towing with this much horsepower. Is an FE going to cause me grief while towing heavy?

Towing can be a bit tricky with an FE, although they will hold some serious power the OFE isnt as grabby on take off, but with a clutch its better to have to much then not enough. I think either the OFE or FE will hold your power easily but towing? I dont know. I think to get the best of both worlds in smoothness and power you need a small dual disc. You are no where near 550 HP and I dont think you can slip either one but we all drive diffrent and that can mean a big diffrence as well. I can ramp up the power when I tow 8k or so in the hills and it does take some getting used to with the grabbyness on takeoff, but once going its as smooth as can be.

Hey George, my FE can be a bit tricky when backing up a heavy load,( seems it likes a couple hundred RPM's above idle so it won't grab as hard, several have said this won't hurt it. . me? I believe there are only 2 spots for a clutch to be. . either in, or out, no in between stuff!) Just got word I can pick up my rig tomorrow up in SLC finally after 2 weeks up there. Boys couldn't find anything wrong with trans, :( but they replaced the mainshaft and some gears... . so they say... Will leave here tonight about 12 in the 4 Runner then tow it home on the small hauler I left in SLC. Guess I'll drive it and see what happens, make a couple of container runs this week hopefully, then have a $400,000 H2 to haul across town this weekend.

mattyymac, how do you figure I am no where near 550? I saw a truck with a setup identical to mine pull a 564 HP (no meth) at the May madness dyno days. With the FASS 200 I can run my TST at 7/7 while towing. 7/7, FASS 200, SPS 62, ATS Arcflow, ATS exhaust manifold, AFE intake, + HOGG exhaust surely have me real close to 550. With the methanol injection I have to be right there.

Have YOU ever dynoed YOUR TRUCK and ITS set up? With a TST alone you would only be making AT BEST 450 RWHP or so all your other parts arent giving you anymore fuel, just the ability to burn the fuel which would probably net another 25 WHP (Without the meth). There are to many trucks on this board running the TST and until you start stacking and doing alot of other air/fuel mods you wont see 500+ RWHP with the TST alone.

I had an FE in my 03 and it was a bit grabby, but I also had a 2" lift and 35" duals. So, pulling it could be grabby. I have been told by Peter at South Bend that with their experience in my situation at the time a set of traction bars would improve the issue greatly. Just a thought if you have issues.
