N.E.T.D.P Sled Pull Video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The "Humbler" awaits.....Kauffman's Dyno Roll..

There is a mud drag event coming up sorta soonish...

Sunday - August 24, 2003

7:00-noon for tech inspection/registration

Competition starts at 10AM

$40. 00 to compete (cash prizes - I won $100/1st place there 3 or so years ago in the 4/6 cylinder class with the old truck... . )

Where: Cheshire Fairgrounds in Swanzey, NH

I plan on taking the Dodge to see how quickly I sink to the bottom and amuse the crowd. The mud has been pretty deep ever since I won 1st place a few years ago..... it was like sand drags back then. Now some trucks can hardly make it to the starting line... .

It'll be interesting to see which class they'll put me in..... probably the 4/6 cylinder class. :D

If anyone else wants to go - give a shout.

Matt

P. S. I recently got some information in the mail about another one in Lempster, NH (I've never heard of the place... . ) on Sept. 7th.

Mark:

I'd say it would be about 2. 5hrs - since it takes me about 2hrs to get to HTFD..... and this place is about 1/2 hour away for me... .

I've NEVER seen a diesel run at this event - I think it'll be good for me to put on at least a little smoke show... :-laf

Matt

:--) :--) :--) MUD DRAGS !!!!!... Man that will hurt my trucks feelings. It doesn't like mud..... :D :D Andy

At this point - I don't know if I'll be able to race the truck.

My rearend is NOT happy at all..... and to top it off - I'll probably have to work both Saturday and Sunday this weekend..... for free!!! Joy!!

Matt

I knew I shouldn't have said "rearend"..... :-laf

My Dana-70 differential is hating life - gotta re-bearing/clutch it at some point.

I changed my mind last night - it's gonna hit the mud no matter what. I'll be there bright and early Sunday morning - if anyone is still planning on going.....

MTY

Okay - here's the deal... .

My truck can't compete in the mud drags - but Dad has expressed interest in going. Perhaps he'll run his?

I'm not holding my breath on this one.....

MTY

Well - I'll start off by saying that it was a very tough pit to say the least.

Only about 4 trucks made it all the way through - and they all had huge lifts and brandy-new Swampers or Boggers.....

Brian's dually made it to the starting line - which is a feat that some trucks couldn't even accomplish. He mashed the pedal when the light turned green - but he just sat there and spun the tires.

When I got up to the line with Dad's truck - I built 10psi and then held my foot on the floor..... EGT gauge was reading hot and I was holding a steady 38psi. I made it 78' into the pit - which I venture to guess that less than 1/8 of all the trucks could accomplish.

Dad's truck did very well for itself despite the not-exactly-mud-friendly Mickey Thompson (puller's favorite... ) tires... ...

Now he wants a B1 to cool down the EGT's into a reasonable level... .

No videos or photos - Brian's camera had bogus batteries. :(

I'm nursing some serious sunburn - after standing around from 9:30AM until I finally ran at 5PM... . there were a LOT of trucks in the V8 class... ...

On the hottie honey front - there were at least a few - nothing to write home about.....

We spent two hours under/on-top-of Dad's truck with a hose last night - and it's still dirty.

It was fun - and I know what to do next time.

MTY

He had folks literally crawling under the truck to check out the plumbing.

I had a lot of guys swearing at me because they thought I was running propane... . :-laf And even more idiots that thought I was running NOS... .

Even the event planners were upset that 6-cylinder Cummins diesels were in the 4/6 cylinder classification. If they don't like 5. 9L inline-six's with more HP/torque than 90% of the gasser V8's that showed up - then they need to change the rules - because we played by the rules to the letter.

MTY

You got lobster? ... er, you got to be a lobster?

Sounds like fun. I bet the crowd has as much fun watching each truck get pulled out as watching it run. What does the tow crew look like at the end of the day? I bet they have mud in places where mud doesn't normally go.

Was there any breakage?

MTE

Breakage was limited to overheated engines/trannies with unknown ramifications.....

I heard a radiator cap on the "Jumbo Jim" Chevy Blazer letting off some extreme pressure - it sounded like a steam locomotive/steam whistle all at once. :-laf

The crowd was okay - most of them didn't know what to think with a big heavy - bone stock appearing diesel truck hitting the mud pit... .

The crack recovery team consisted of a John Deere 'payloader' and a long cable which was attached to the back of each truck... . there was of course the required crew of two or three to hitch up each truck before and after each pass. The rule was that if the driver refused to hook or did not have provisions to hook - they had to get out of their vehicle and hook up the cable themselves after they got stuck in the nasty mud pit. :-laf

The recovery team managed to stay rather clean - with a few exceptions. Quite a few trucks scattered/sprayed so much mud that the starting lady, recovery team, and the crowd got a little bit dirty.....

I didn't check the rear-view for collateral damage - I was busy looking for a 'good line' in the pit and chuckling at the gauges... .
