I want to get mudfalps on soon, and am considering Husky molded and Plasticolor "flat"



I prefer the look of "molded" flaps, but I am wonder if the ribs that these have facing the tire will make them prone to collecting mud, snow, ice. And since they are fairly stiff, may get torn up if they get caught on a big rock.



After reading comments in past threads, I see that some molded ones may not be wide or long enough for good protection too.



I plan to stay with the stock 265/70 tire size and plan to get some running boards later, along the line of Westin’s Step Boards.



Any comments / recomendations?

Lately here, I have been selling alot of the mopar thick rubber mud flaps. . They are durable against off-roading, etc... But they dont look quite as good

I'll second the mopar thick rubber flaps. Oo. I happen to think that they look a good deal better than the molded plastic ones. Also, they don't get up onto the paint like the plastic flaps.

I just ordered the mopar molded ones from Geno's last week.
 
Mopar HD rubber all around on my 05. I originally had the molded DRW flaps on my 96, but switched to HD rubber.



The texture on the tire side of the flap is intended to cut down on splash-spray, and it does a decent job.
 
I, also, ran across a guy that bought the molded flaps. They wrap around the edge of the wheel well onto the side of the fender. The flaps move a bit and, over time, can grind the paint off of the area under the flap material.



The guy was really mad and had Dodge remove them and repaint the fender well edges.

Is the texture you refer to on the "Molded" or the "flat" ones?

It's on the HD rubber flaps, both single and dual-wheel styles. It had been on the molded ones in the past, don't know about the current version.

I like the Dura flap mud flaps, they are alot like Dodge ones but can be ordered bigger and longer for more protection. And can also be ordered with stainless weights that look really good. :cool: Check out there web site. www.kaydenco.com

I installed my Mopar molded ones today. Fit was excellent on the front, and I'd say fair on the rears. They'll do a good job.



I waxed the crap out of the paint under the flaps. I hope they don't scratch.
 
Dura Flaps are the best. I just got Mine fully chromed out and Have the name "CUMMINS" on the back. they look awesome. I will post some pix. Plus they are flexible, not like those fixed MOPAR's. Ask for Dennis when you call www.duraflap.com He will do right by you.
 
I have the Mopar rubber flaps on all four. They have been installed for two years and I have experienced rain, snow, slush, mud, grass and worked well with all. I have the Mopar accent kit all around, which includes running boards and with flaps, I get no slush or spray on side of truck.



2003 3500 SRW Quad Laramie HO 48RE, Edge, 5" exhaust, exhaust brake, ATS valve body and Controller, AFE 7, also Roll-N-Lock cover, Siruis radio, garmin M5 GPS. I love my truck. Pull 24" enclosed car hauler for my Porsche 914 with Chevy V8.
 
I see where Tomeygun in #6 has a picture of diamond plate flaps. I made a set of those. For those of us living in the great white north, our roads get super-sloppy in the spring and I was constantly cleaning road grime out from under the driver's and passenger's side lower door seals. They would literally be caked with crap. At the time I had the 19" Ram head plastic flaps. I went to Menards (Home Depot type place for all others) and bought four 12"x24" polished aluminum diamond plate. I then took the plastic mudflaps off one by one and using them as a template, cut the curve for the body line plus marked the holes that were already drilled in the plastic flaps for the new aluminum ones. I also moved the plastic flaps 1" inboard on the aluminum to give a little extra outside coverage. The concerns here were that the flaps would be too long and would scrape on things as the ground clearance between the bottom of the front flaps and the ground was 5". Haven't had a problem yet. Not a big car wash fan but I thought I would see if they would scrape when the tires entered the track of the car wash. Nada. I would definately NOT recommend this if you like to go off-road as I think they would scrape as the truck twist but mine is a road queen that rarely even see's a dirt road and these flaps look great. I use Mother's aluminum polish on them and when I am done they almost look chrome. The only drawback I have found is they do lack a lot of "stiffness". They are stiff, just not plastic mudflap stiff. And they do a great job. Cost? $25. 00 each so for $100 I did all for in about 3 hours. Just M2C.
 
yeah, I plan on doing a fair amount of easy off roading, well at least off pavement. So flexibility is one of my main concerns, one reason I am concerned about the "molded" type. After looking more, I see many of the molded type seem pretty short. Less chance to hit a rock, but less protection from spray.
 
I put the Husky molded flaps on the rear based on recommendations here. They look the same or similar to the MOPAR flaps but come with some clear 3M tape to protect the paint. I had read from some Members that the molded flaps can rub on the paint. I bought them from Cabelas: they have some good prices on truck goodies.



So far so good!
 
Look in the classifieds under the member basement area.



I make a ABS plastic flap that is like the mopar plastic flat flaps... . but mine is 3" longer to help protect against rock dings.



They are flexible when you bump against a curb but dont sail and are shatterproof.
