Large wheels for BR2500's

Do any of you more experienced Rammers have an opinion which is better? I heard OEs are too flexible and rub paint (old string). Are either of the other two better?

thanks

I went with the longer (4x4) flat ones from Dodge, so far they are doing the job of keeping mud and stone chips off the lower body panels. I'd spray some T-9 or MC chain lube in the drilled holes to prevent rust under the sheet metal. I used a couple of extra screws in the front.

I used the flat ones from Dodge also. These are not the ones refered to in the paint damage thread.

They work very well. I used a bead of silicon on the mating surface when I attached them to keep dirt out and prevent rubbing the paint on the wheel well lip.

Jonathan,

Mopar lists three different types of splash guards that will fit your 2000 RAM 2500 4x4-Antispray, Flat, and Molded.

Antispray-these are the only ones that I would actually describe as flat.

82401227 front
82401228 rear
82401334 front - 3" longer than above
82401335 rear - 3" longer than above

Flat-

82203705 front or rear - ram logo
82203707 front or rear - no logo

Molded-

82401407 front or rear - front cannot be used with side steps or running boards.

I have had the shorter antispray splash guards on my 2000 RAM 2500 4x4 for 18,000 miles in various weather conditions-rain, snow, and mud-with no problems. An easy install and well worth the $21. 50 per pair my dealer charged.

The various splash guards will give your truck various "looks. " Your local Mopar parts counter should be able to show you photographs in some type of Dodge Truck Accessories from Mopar Dealer Facts Book. My 1999 book shows 81 pages of accessories for Ram trucks.

Got Pro Flaps all the way around here. They look good too. Liked the NW Custom but they seemed a bit over priced...

Not for what you are getting Brad! I had a set of Pro Flaps although nice, I took them back because the front tire looked like it would hit one of my 285/75R16s. That's another reason I like the NW Custom mud flaps... they can be made a little longer (hanging down further) becuase of the offset design, 2. 5" front, 5" rear. I also like the way you can have them customized to your requirements/personal preference. I guess it all boils down to what you want to spend.

I just installed the Mopar molded ones listed for a 4x4. The dealer got one set in that was two piece and the second came in a one piece set. I saw where the two piece ones were causing the flex rubbing problems. It took almost two weeks but the dealer got in another one piece set. There are two differences between sets. The one piece have a tab with a screw hole on the back side bottom which should hold them tight. Also the one piece have a raised Rams Head on them,I will be painting them white which should look super.

Hey Rock,

Those 1 piece front splash guards rubbed the paint off my front fenders!!! Now I got to paint the whole fender on both sides--what a PIA!!! #ad

The flat 1 piece anti-spray type referenced to above are the only ones that won't rub off the paint. Plus they match my rear dually flaps. #ad

Hope you have better luck than I did.

Has anyone got the anti-spray types that are 3" longer? I just ordered the normal length ones, but still question what the longer one look like on a truck. I currently have 285/75's but thinking about new wheels, leveling the front end and going to 315/75's. Are the shorter ones gonna work with these larger tires?

Thanks guys!

TXRam-I purchased the anti-spray flaps (the longer ones) and they look/work well IF your truck is 4x4. With 2w they would be too long (IMHO). Also, I went to Cummins the other day for an oil filter and they had an awesome set with the Ram's head and the Cummins "C". Would have bought them if I knew-what the heck-take off the Dodge flaps and put those on? Hmmm

Here's a question for those who have installed the rear dually anti-spray mud flaps:

Did the holes in the flaps match up with the plugs on the truck? The mudflaps have six holes that are suppose to line up with existing plugs on the truck. However, I only have 5 plugs on the truck and only 3-4 that will actually line up. The dealer says that there is only one flap made for years 1994 and later. Is this really the case? Some have said that the flaps lined up perfectly with their truck and others have said that you only use the ones that will line up. Anyone have the correct solution?

Mine lined up perfectly. The upper inside hole does not line up with a plug in the fender liner. It lines up with a hole in the fender lip and come with a long screw & spacer to attach. I changed mine to a long stainless machine screw & stainless lock nut. Did your set come with hardware & instructions in the box?

Yeah Mike, I have the instructions. The first step is to remove the six plugs from my wheel well. I only have five and they are in a staggered pattern. The holes in the flaps are three rows of two-holes each. I also have the long screw, and I like your idea of changing to a stainless steel.

Funny thing is that the last guy that told me that they worked perfectly also had a 12-V. They must be 12-V flaps!

TXRam, the longer anti-spray mud flaps look a little long unless you have 35" dia. tires. Additionally, the longer flaps are not any wider. A considerable portion of your 315s will not be protected.

The molded mud flaps will only realistically protect the factory (thru '99) 245s, maybe the 265s, anything larger and you have a substantial portion of the tire left unprotected.

Bill Stockard is correct! Either the one or two piece molded mud flaps WILL rub through the paint!

Thanks for all the input. I still don't have a decision made but I am leaning toward the longer anti-sprays. I just want to see a truck or two with them on and compare it to the shorter style molded. The paint rubbing thing is a concern with those as well.

I still haven't heard any specific comments on Husky brand flaps so I am taking that as an indicator that no one thought enough of them to actually put them on a truck.

Thanks again
Jonathan

JMFVet and Dresslered, I used the anti spray flaps on my Y2K 3500 and they fit perfectly. The instructions called for using a certain size drill bit (I forget the size)for the long screw, but it was too large and the screw wouldn't get a bite. I had to get a larger diameter screw to fit this hole. I used silicone sealant on the threads to seal the screw in the new hole to prevent rust. These flaps work really well, and don't sail.

Thanks for the info on the one piece molded rubbing the paint, I thought it was only the two piece that did this. As soon as I get time I will mark there outline, pull them off and install the 3m clear protector tape on the fenders where they make contact. I really like the looks of the molded ones and this should solve the problem. I did contact husky and there flaps are 1 3/4 inches shorter than the mopar ones. They look almost the same.

LarryM-

I'm referring to the rear anti-spray mudflaps (P/N 82203036) for the dually which have 6-holes (excluding the one for the long screw). Do you mean to say that all 6 lined up with the existing plugs in your fender wells? My pattern isn't even the same.

David,

I have the anti-spray mud flaps on my 3500. The dealer installed them. Here in Texas, you have to have them to pass State Safety Inspection on any truck with dual rear wheels. I told the make-ready tech I was going to put Geno's chrome mud flap weights on them so he bolted them on instead of using the plastic plugs. He said that the plastic plugs wouldn't hold the flaps with weights on them.

I have 2 friends with the flaps installed with the plastic plugs and added the mud flap weights. Just like the tech at my dealer said, they came loose and had to be bolted on. So my advise is bolt them on if you are going to use mud flap weights.

BTW, mine have only 5 holes that line up with the fender well plastic plugs. Unfortunately, I don't have a part number.
