Muffler Attenuation (dBA): WHAT'S IT MEAN

This means how they quiet a sound generating source. Such as your engine exhaust. Baffles and sound absorption material is used to obtain a certain sound level. This sound level reading is measured at so many feet from the source that is emitting this sound.

Thus the 13 to 18 dba as listed in the muffler spec as the sound level. This muffler you are looking at may or may not be any louder then what you have. You will need to know what your muffler is rated for to compare the difference.

The 13-18 is the spec on my current 51" muffler

I'm going to get the 40" such is rated at 8-12. From what I understand it will be just a little louder

The decibel scale is logarithmic, so every 3 dB change roughly doubles (or halves) the power. So the new muffler will be A LOT louder.
