I have a 08 2500 and I just got the muffler bypass from Geno's Garage. Do I have to do anything as far as reprograming or changing something besides the muffler?

Just take the muffler out but be careful on where you cut the pipe.

It makes me wonder what a 6. 7l sounds like w/o the muffler:cool:

Yes becareful were you cut. When I did mine I was limited on tools for the job and used a saws all which was fast but cut it short. The tail pipe kept falling off but have fixed the problem now.

Did muffler removal change anything? Sound level, egt, boost, seat of the pants feel, etc?

A bit throatier sound , Egt's come down faster, has an awesome sound when you nail it , does feel like it pulls better but could be in my head. Removed at least 40lbs of weight.

He said he had an 08 model there will not be any difference what so ever. To much junk up stream. Bypass all that and it sounds awesome.

That was what I expected, no change on the ISB6. 7 engine due to the DPF, etc.

I removed the muffler on my '06 and liked the sound although I didn't really notice any difference in EGT or turbo response.

Harvey, have you tried towing without the muffler? I want the sound and better flow, but am concerned about drone. If its not irrating towing a heavy load, I will do it.

Yes, I was transporting RVs for hire every day with my previous '06 w/no muffler. It was completely satisfactory to me, I liked the diesel sound and it did not reverberate or drone in the cab.

However, having said that I should admit that I have some hearing loss. I had this identical conversation recently on one or two other threads and another member said I must be deaf. His droned badly according to him. That was his opinion, I stated mine. It IS possible that my cab was noisier to some people than it was to me. I liked it and comfortably listened to SIRIUS radio all day every day while on the road approximately 600 miles/day.

I removed only the muffler leaving the cat converter and a small resonator in place. If you remove or have a muffler shop remove the OEM muffler and save it you can always change your mind and reinstall it. Wouldn't be a large loss.

I dont know if I would keep it if I was towing everyday. It is a bit loud but not over the top. One of my clients who is into vintage open wheel racing along with his Ferrarie and Porsche really likes the sound of my truck. he has only heard it ideling through the boat yard.

His is a 08 6. 7L which means even without a muffler it'll still be quiet.

Noise won't be a problem for this application, there's to much up stream still acting as a muffler
