I'm moving to Colorado in the summer and since my truck has the muffler elimination kit, will they pass it on emissions? Are we required to have one?

Mine came with an emmisions exempt sticker on the window. I don't know if that will help much.

El Paso county (Colorado Springs area) and most of the front range requires an emission check annually for vehicles without an exemption sticker. You get an exemption sticker if you buy the vehicle in the state. Those of us who move around and don't buy new vehicles for the occasion need to get checked before the county will let us register. There is one vendor qualified to perform the diesel emission check in El Paso county. $45 per year. I just called and asked what they look for. They look for all required emissions equipment for the year of the truck. A muffler is NOT required emissions equipment. However, a catalytic converter IS required emissions equipment if your truck came from the factory with one. They don't care if the catalytic converter is a stupid idea, just if it's required.

It all depends what county you register in. If you go South of Colorado Springs you don't have to have an emissions check at all. #ad
The smaller towns don't have emmission checks>

Since you have a 24V, which never had a cat, you will have no problem passing a Colorado emmisions test, which is required if you live along the Front Range.

The Colorado test is just a smoke opacity test. They do a full load test of your truck on a dyno and measure the amount of light that can pass through the exhaust gasses. They don't even look under the truck.

Too bad they aren't allowed to give you power numbers for the dyno run. The guy said the state won't allow it. But he would charge me an extra 50 bucks for another run to measure the power but I would have to make another appointment #ad
