hey i saw in the genos catalog a muffler elimination kit (you pull the muffler out and put a new piece of pipe in its place) does anyone have one in their truck? it said that it just makes your exhaust louder, im just curious as to how loud it makes it and if i makes any kind of difference with anything else (performance, milage, that kind of stuff)

last summer I had the muffler removed because it was badly rusted, and it was cheaper than replacing the muffler. I looked at that product, but it ended up costing me less to just have a muffler shop weld in a pipe than it would have cost just to order the part, and I read a magazine while it happened instead of doing an "easy" bolt in procedure on a rusty old exhausted. Its certainly one option though. I recommend pricing out a couple of places, it'll probably be comparable to have it done professionally and be a whole lot easier.

As far as benefits, I only did it because the final portion of the exhaust had broken off of the muffler because of rust. I didn't have my gauges before, so I don't know anything about EGT differences, but mine are now comparable to most other moderately tuned 12v trucks I read about on here, so I assume there wasn't much of a difference. It is a little louder. Though with the windows up I can barely hear it. It doesn't have a really nice tone like a larger diameter replacement exhaust, its just louder than stock with more turbo noise, which is nice in its own right, but don't expect to sound like you put on a whole new system. Mileage hasn't changed, except when I roll my windows down, particularly when driving past some sort of wall . . . mileage has dropped in those instances. I haven't towed with mine, so I don't know what, if any, drone there is towing. Mine does have a resonance between 1100 and 1250 RPM that it didn't used to have, but that is low enough that I rarely am in it.

All this to say, if you want it straight piped, it can be justified, but don't expect earth shattering results. Hope this noncommittal response was helpful.

I have the M. E. K on my truck. I left the baffle in place which knocks down some of the exhaust noise a little. Mine is louder than it was but not as loud as straight piped. It does free up the flow and you can hear the turbo whistle a little more.

I bought the muffler elimator for my truck and I am not sure if it lowered my EGTs but I think it did. When I am not pulling the trailer it not much louder than stock but when you pull a trail it gets pretty loud when you pull a hill from the sound boucing back to the cab off of the trailer. On a long trip it gets old I ended up putting on my sound canceling head phones which took care of the noise.

cool thanks a lot i was kinda expecting those kinds of responses back but i just wanted to make sure what i thought was right

I have the ME kit from Genos on my 2006. Truthfully since the new engines are so quiet anyway, there was not that much change, little louder, but certainly not enough tho make me change it or install another muffler. It DID lower my EGT's by quite a bit, 200* at least and yes you get a little turbo whistle but also not that much.

If I got a new truck tomorrow, it would be one of the first things I added.

I had to drive my friends 98 12 valve 110 miles to his house while he was having his liver transplant.

After 75 miles of the drone I will never remove my muffler.

After two years, my Preacher friends liver is doing perfect.

Not sure what advantage the kit would give to a 07, but on my 02 it did improve turbo spool up and it seems to run about 150 degrees cooler on the exhaust temp. But it did increase the exhaust noise a little. I am planning on ging for a 4 inch system with the flow thru muffler soon as my pipes are rusting due to salt ( I'm at the beach) so the 4 inch system will be SS. :-laf

First you should know the 12 valve some of these guys have and your motor will sound very diff. I believe the 12 valve is 3" from the trubo back to the cat. Your 07 should be 4" all the way. I did the ED on my 1997 12 valve and loved it! I also did it on my 2006 and hated it so much I changed it within a week. It was just to loud in the cab.

I recommend you do your homework before you do the work.

Hope this helps.

im pretty sure that its a 4" the whole way. i think im going to go for the m. e kit from what you guys have been saying i think ill like the results. i actually love the way the older engines sound compared to my 5. 9 and the new 6. 7's (dont get me wrong my 5. 9 is great)

How about when you have the Banks 4" Monster? Is it worth removing the muffler? Also, will the MEK fit the Banks setup?

You can easily have a MEK made for a 2nd GEN; it's just a 3" x 3' (estimate) pipe with the end expanded. Any muffler shop can make one in 5 minutes.
I did this a few years back and put the muffler back on after a week. The drone was a bit much for me and I don't like attracting attention.

if any of you MEK guys with a 04. 5 + would like to get rid of your old muffler shoot me a PM I could use one for my 06 im selling.
Thanks!
