I am thinking about removing my muffler via a local exhuast shop for the price of $75. My goals are lower EGT, better performance and better MPG. Has anyone had theirs removed and received these benefits?

I would strongly reccomend that you replace the muffler with a flow-through type of your choice. I ran a straight pipe for about 7 months. It was obnoxiously loud an very raspy. I then installed a 24 inch muffler and the tone is deeper and a bit more refined.

I agree with SamPap. I ran straight exhaust (no muffler, no cat) for about a month and it had nice sound under full throttle, but was raspy and had an irritating high pitched sound to it (not the turbo). I put on a 4" straight through glasspack (Dynamax I think) and that took all the high pitch noise out of it, and it sounds great now, with no increase in backpressure compared with open exhaust.

I removed my muffler a few months ago and love it. Truck isn't really loud as you might expect,IMHO, CAT still there. Also added and AFE w/ Touque Tube. Not much improvement in the fuel mileage, however exhaust/turbo sound is quite noticable. I love it.
