Muffler elimination

Question for do-it-yourselfers concerning the muffler elimination kit from Genos. How difficult was it to remove the stock muffler? Can it be removed with little damage, to be re-used if necessary?

On my truck I had to use an air hammer to cut the muffler off. The clamps were so tight the pipes were actually dented

That would look pretty funny bolted up to a lawnmower





I had to cut mine out, same condition, crushed by OEM clamps.



Once it is off, you'll never want to put it back on!!!!!!

After fighting with mine for to long I just got the cutting torch out they put those things on tight!!!!

Tried to save it but the factory gullotiene clamps make it darn hard, cut-off wheel did the trick, but I dont think mine will ever have a muffler again

Push it off

I just removed my muffler, and was able to push it off using a short hydralic jack. Just put the jack between the resonator and the muffler. I used two small wood blocks to help prevent denting the items. With the clamps all off, and the hangers free, the muffler pushed off with very little work. Yes the pipes were dented from the original clamp, but it was not a problem.

Try a floor jack

I actually pulled my muffler off. After I took the bolts off I wedged a floor jack between the muffler and the resonator. It bends the mouth of the muffler a little when the factory crimps bend back out. But the rear resonator exit pipe stays perfectly straight. After you get it off the resonator, take the entire muffler / tailpipe assembly out by unbolting the rest of the hangers. Pull the entire assembly out from underneath the truck. Then use your floor jack to pop the tail pipe off the muffler.



All this will be exhausting - no pun intended. But if you really don't want to cut then this may be an option.

Why would anyone want to put it back on. The sound of it off is to good to be true.

Not too easy

I did mine last night. I cut it off. Cut it very close to the muffler or you will not have enough pipe left to clamp to. The big suprise was the 4" clamp on the front of the muffler was welded to the pipe. The Genos kit requires reusing this clamp and hanger. Took a while with an air chisel to brake the weld. Over all I was able to do it without screwing it up.



I would not want to put the stock muffler back on. Worse case you go out and buy a performance 3" muffler for around $50.
