Does anybody with experience using Geno's muffler elimination pipe find the noise objectionable? Is the engine noise considerably louder than stock driving at crusing speed? Is there any noticable power difference?

Any real world experience with the muffler elimination kit would be appreciated.

Thanks

I have been using the ME kit for about 8 months now. I LOVE IT!!

Yes, there was a small increase in power, no more noise in the cab than stock, but put the passanger window down and go up a hill, you'll love the sound!!

I have had the ME kit on for about a year and a half. I hate it, LOL. Really I wish I would have left the stock muffler on or had gotten a flow through muffler. I notice quite a bit more noise in the cab, and ZERO performance gain for me. It may make a difference for some guys, but I have basically zero lag anyway, and I can overpower the stock TC at will. It does sound pretty cool, but running 1000 miles a week +/- a tad it gets old. I never had any EGT trouble, so any gain I saw in that department was a waste. I honestly did not see more than a 50* change in EGT, I did not see any faster spool-up. The only quantifiable difference I saw was noise went up. A 4" exhuast is in my near future, WITH a muffler, LOL. Save your muffler if it is possible at all, so if you don't like the ME you can put it back. Mine was destroyed for the most part in the removal. Everyone has a different outlook on it, I would advise you to put the ME on and try it. LOTS of guys are happy with it.

I never did the ME kit on my stock exhaust, but I just took off the muffler from my 4" Jardine exhaust, which I had on the truck for about 25K miles. I absolutely LOVE the straight piped sound :D:D:D However, I have also noticed that when going 2000 RPM with all windows wolled up tight and no radio, there is a very noticeable and fairly loud drone in the cab now. It is only really loud at between 1900+ - 2100 RPM... good thing I like to go at least 75 MPH when I can ;)

Just wanted to add my own experiences.

PS: I wouldn't trade the awesome new sound for a muffler again, but I know many folks would not like the drone. Also, I don't know if the same drone will occur in the stock 3" exhaust.

I went to my local muffler shop and he did it for me for $50. 00 removed both the muffler and resonator. I love it!:D More power lower egt's you should keep you muffler in case you don't like it:mad: but try it before you spend $600. 00 on a good 4 inch system. You'll either love it or hate it.

It's a bit noiser in the cab (very minor) that's what the stero is for. I noticed a bit of a by the seat of the pants increase - I'm stone stock. It's not just because there's more noise eiter a slight increase is good and worth the minimal$. Sounds great and you can make the little rice burners with the beer can mufflers roll up their windows and drool when you pass them and floor it:-laf

Try it you'll like it. Spray some penetrating oil on the pipe joints, clamp nuts and such while it's hot a few days before you take it to the shop for hopes of saving as much as possible. It worked for me. The muffler had to be cut off - my mechanic was able to leave about 3/4" on the muffler to weld a new piece of pipe back on . . . just in case.

Pulled the muffler off a few weeks ago. I was able to remove all pieces with no damage at all, just heated the nipples with the torch and worked them apart with a block of wood and a 4lb hammer. I bought the 4"-3" adapter for $28, and the muffler shop bent up the pipe, installed hangers and rehung the tailpipe for just over $40.

Sound great, has very minimal noise increase in the cab. Performance increase little if any. Mileage probably dropped from listening to the cool new sounds.

Go for it dude

has anyone removed the muffler

then listened... and wanted more...

then removed the resonator too?

i am disappointed with only the muffler gone, resonator still here.

i will leave it alone and wait for my comp to see if that changes it...

any comments?

The resonator is straight through, there is zero performance gain by removing it, except it sounds coooool. I had a muffler shop remove the muffler and replace it with a 3" pipe, resonator left in. Little noiser in the cab and faster spool up. MPG went down bcuz of sound-effect :D

I've had the Geno's Muffler Eliminator for about 2 years now. It was GIVEN to me by a fellow member. I think he upgraded to 4" or even duals. Anyway here is my experience...

EGT Reduction - Definitely - Gives me more time before the Pyro goes nuclear.

Performance Gain - None (only psycological 'cuz it sounds cool)

Quicker Spool Up - None (see above)

Sounds Cool Outside. Not obnoxious. but does turn heads.

Sounds Stock Inside. EXCEPT at about 2000rpm there is a drone. Not bad, but noticable, especailly on long road trips. I've heard the drone is worse without the resonator.

The muffler shops around here wanted 100 bucks to do the same thing. However, getting the old muffler seperated cleanly from the resonator was a pain in the butt.

I took my muffler off a couple weeks ago. I went to a truck shop and bought a piece of 3" pipe flared on one end to fit over the pipe comming from the resenator (4" I think) and an adaptor to fit the 3" pipe to the tail pipe. The pipe was 42" long and I had to cut it to length.

Removing the muffler wasn't too bad (although it was the longest part of the project). I took a grinder and cut 3 slots back past where the muffler clamp was, spread it with a screw driver and slipped (yanked, tugged and cussed) the muffler off.

Total time = about 45 minutes

Total $ = $40

Benefit = Awesome sound:D

I do have the drone at about 2000rpm, but anything higher or lower it is not noticable at all. Sounds great!

So far it's my only mod, next will be gauges.

Rather than straight piping or eleiminating the stock muffler to gain performance, why not replace the exhaust system with a turbo back 4" aluminized system with 4" down pipe. This will give the increased exhaust flow you are looking for without making the truck too loud. You could even add a 5" SS resonator tip to quite the sound even more.

i there anyone here thats in st louis,

that has a 2000-2002 24v, with the muffler AND resonator gone??

i would like to meet them and compare the sound of mine with res. and theirs without it...

THANKS!
