Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Crazy Fuelish Problem!!!

Getting ready to drop a B. O. M. B :-laf on the muffler. US Diesel Parts has a muffler delete pipe for $28. 10, Geno's Garage wants $69. 00 for their muffler elimination kit. Trying to figure out what justifies the price difference if they are the same thing. What is the difference (if there is a difference) between the two items? Should I ditch the resonator too? Since I haul sailboat fuel :D 99. 5% of the time noise under a load won't be much of an issue. Looking to lower the EGT's a little and possibly raise the mileage a little. Already put the Fleetguard AH19037 B. H. A. F. on it and made shelf clutter out of the silencer ring. Just can't afford a 4" exhaust right now. It's a 2001 with 3. 54 gears and auto trans.

Keep the resonator, 69 dollars is too high for a piece of pipe, shop charged me 50 to weld in straight pipe. You don't need a 4" exhaust unless you are 400 hp or more.

I'm interested in doing a straight pipe also, instead of spending 400+ on a 4" exhaust. I couldn't find the straight pipe on us diesel parts site. Is it just a piece of pipe or is it a "kit"

Thanks

I took both the mufler and resonator off when I did mine. After a few weeks of the dreaded drone I put the resonator back on! The truck really screams in the cab when completely straightpiped. The resonator mostly cuts down on the drone in cab and leaves a nice bark/turbo whistle outside. Unless you're completely deaf I'd just do the mufler.

Ok. If it does not make any sense to got to 4" exhaust until you push 400hp, is a bhaf the first step to take in preparation of other bombs??

just find a small exhaust shop, not tuffy, midas, etc. they will do it for pretty cheap. all u really need is a piece of straight 3", u can make it wok without the bends. as for the bhaf, u really dont need it until about 350-400 hp. your egt's will get high, then think about it. go for injectors or fueling/timing box. best bang for the buck. just my 2 cents...

If you type in part # MDA36 on usdieselparts.com it will show up but there is no picture. Not planning any power-bombing because of the stock auto trans. The BHAF and the exhaust work is for efficiency, sound, and hopefully make the engine work/breathe a little easier. I was a worried about causing a drone problem if I removed the resonator. I think I will keep it and chuck the muffler. I might just take some measurements and have my own eliminator pipe made locally.

how you going to hook that 3" pipe to that 4" outlet in back of the resonator?

Those who want to keep the resonator, a 4" in and out straight through diesel muffler with a 4" turndown or sideways tip at muffler exit might be superior and quieter.

The muffler inlet is 3" ,cut off muffler near inlet slide expanded pipe over. Then weld at angle to match tailpipe.

my 2001 muffler inlet is 4"

looks like 3" from turbo back to resonator, out of resonator it increases to 4" for a short distance between resonator and muffler and then out of muffler it is 3" again. Never seen anything like it before.

Go to NAPA and ask for a 3 x 4 adapter. I used one on my old 1st gen.

I understand eliminating the muffler will increase the noise - slightly & decrease my EGT's, is anyone experiencing better fuel economy by doing this?

04. 5, QC, 2500, 4x4, LB, 6sp, Westach dual gauges

I just bought a 4" inlet/outlet muffler $68 [7-0045] and 4" turndown $15 [td400] from www.auto-jet.com.

That will give me 3" from turbo to resonator. 4" out of resonator into 4" stright through diesel muffler into a 4" turndown, which I am going to dump right in front of the rear axle. may angle it to outside. Have the option of ordering their 4" tailpipe for $66. [dodptp]

Whole 4" system turbo back is $260. [add $38 extension pipe DODPEXT] Aluminized steel.

I used their pipes on my 86 turbo diesel Trooper with 3" stack.

SUMMARY: Auto-jet alumized 4" steel exhaust system

Turbo downpipe DODTURBO $88

Extension pipe DODPEXT $38

muffler 7-0045 $68

Tailpipe DODPTP $66

$ 260

Does not include hangers.

The pipe from U. S. Diesel Parts is $28. 10... ... plus $25. 74 shipping for a 25# item :--) . The one from Geno's is $69. 00 plus $8. 95 shipping. Was there a typo somewhere? Is it supposed to be U. P. S. Diesel Parts? I think I can make one a lot cheaper than that. The Dodge "Little Red Wagon" trucks looked good with sidepipes... ... ... ... and they got them neat little flamethrower kits now... ... ... . Hmm.
