Is there a problem with a muffler illmanation pipe as far as egt's are concerned, or any kind of back presure issues. thanks 2007 5. 9 6 speed quad

Eliminating the muffler is nothing but a good thing in my book. Sounds waaaay better, lower EGTs and less backpressure. You do not want any backpressure on a turbodiesel

I'm going to disagree, partially with the sounds better. At what RPM? My BIL, much to the chagrin of my baby sis, removed his muffler, etc. form his 06 and now it has an annoying drone in the cab in the bottom end RPMs. It's pretty quiet at highway speed, like nothing was done. Sounds cool outside, like a real diesel, but it's annoying, even to him somewhat, at low end RPMs. He just did this, and is already looking at something that has way lower than stock backpressure, still sounds like a real diesel should, and gets rid of the low rev drone and "banging" noise. It doesn't help that they pull a horse trailer with it.

No drone at all with mine, and that has been the consensus of most who have done the same. Search some of the threads out there. There is a way bigger problem with drone if you get the "wrong" aftermarket muffler. I run mine empty mostly these days but have towed 18k with it and still never had a drone issue.

Of course I think "drone" is highly subjective. Hearing the exhaust when rolling down the road doesn't classify as drone to me. Now if I were rolling down the road and the whole cab of the truck was vibrating with exhaust noise, or pieces of interior trim were buzzing because of it I would say there is a problem. I drive people around in my truck all the time and never have had anyone even comment on too much noise. In fact, with the windows up there is really no difference.

On his (a 2500 QC SB, perhaps bed and cab length make a difference) it definitely makes a difference with the windows rolled up, at least enough for me to notice and I have artillery/open cab tractor ears. Granted, I'm also pitch sensitive from band days, and any out of pitch singing/playing, my own included makes me cringe.

If you like the way a real diesel sounds, take the muffler off. I had no drone after taking the muffler off. I do know that the angle (or turn down) you put the exhaust tip at makes a big difference in the sound. I have mine pointed out, parallel to the ground. EGTs dropped and the less back pressure, the faster the turbo can spool.

I do not have drone either, just can hear the exhaust a little more. Not enough to put a muffler back on, that's for sure. The Mega Cabs have the resonator, maybe that's what's making the sound difference. Trud drone will caue something to vibrate at a harmonic resonance. My EGT's dropped a good 100*s, little faster spool or less turbo lag, made a difference that was a gain.

cut my cat and muffler out and put in a short 4" magnaflow glass pack. I like it. It can be a little loud while towing but thats why my strereo has a volome.

i hated the way my truck sounded with no muffler, almost the wost thing i ever heard. ive been though exhausts left and right, 4inch, 5 inch all of it... i finally found a happy middle with 4inch pipe and a bullydog muffler into two 6inch mitre's

just my . 02
