Ok. Here is the deal. I ordered a Flowmaster 40 Series Street Muffler to help quiet the sound a little. What i was wondering was how it might sound after i install it. Does it quiet it too much or just kind of mellow it out a little. The place i ordered it from said that it wouldn't create too much restriction and not quiet it very much. Do any of you guys have one of these mufflers? And if so, what do you think about them? Thanks in advance.

Chris

I had a series 80 on my '95. I tried out a Walker in its place and noticed a slight increase in boost response and significantly lower EGTs.

However... the Walker lets this thing BELLOW when climbing hills hard! I would like to have the civilized behavior of the Flowmaster with the performance of the Walker. Sigh.

Flowmaster has a new kit for diesels that takes the stock 3-inch pipe into their own resonator, comes out from there at 3. 5 and into a 2-chamber Flowmaster race muffler, from there to a 3. 5 inch tailpipe. It's new, but they claim it addresses both problems well. It has a Flowmaster-type price, but I think they are the kings of exhaust R&D. If they get serious about diesel exhaust--which they really haven't until this attempt--it's a good bet that they will produce something good for us.

Don't like mine

I have a 3 chamber 3" flowmaster on my truck. Not sure what series it is though really. I liked it at first it was the first BOMB I did. It helped performance a little but did very very little for the sound. I wanted to be able to hear the truck and I can't lol. It doesn't even whistle through the pipe at idle like the stock one did. I can get a little tailpipe noise out of it with a trailer thats over 7K and I lay down on the go pedal real hard. You might check these guys out, i haven't used any of them yet but its my next mod. My friend has some on his race car and wow they sound good. Check out Straight Line Performance I have to get my car running soon as I have severe drag race fever so no more bombs till the car is running. Good luck

I have a 2 chamber 40 series racing muffler and its not the way to go if you want quiet. I love the sound of mine as well as the performance.

There was a thread about this recently, but I couldn't find it in a search.

Chambered mufflers are not the wat to go for a turbo charged diesel. Perforated straight through mufflers are better and offer better performance, but may be slightly louder depending on the actual design.

The Walker 21468 (3") and 21471 (4") seem to be some of the better mufflers.

I have a Donaldson 41" straight through muffler that I got with my 4" turbo back system from Stan's Headers. I love the sound and the performance. I just use my truck to tow my trailer 750 miles round trip every other weekend and did not want a loud exhaust system. This system is perfect for what I needed. Just my . 02$ worth.

For those of you who like the straight pipe sound but want something bigger; you can go to any big truck house and get all the exhaust parts you need for a fraction of the cost. I'm putting 5 inch on my truck tommorrow. I bought 12 feet of aluminum pipe, 2-45's, 1-90, and a 5" to 4" reducer for $120. I'm pretty sure that even the cheapest 4" kit is well over that. There are also clamps available if you don't have access to a welder. Hope this will help someone out.
