I want to put on a straight thru muffler and was wondering how you guys handled dealing with the offset of the stock muffler. Tried the search and couldn't find an answer... ...

I started out with Geno's muffler eliminator pipe that I thought was to load by it self so I went to NAPA autoparts and got a Dynomax ultra flo muffler and installed it at the first straight pipe after the turbo. It soulds real good now and have had lots of comments about how good it sounds.

I had a local muffler shop install a straight piece of pipe. They didn't have to do much to get past the offset. There is a small upward angle but not much at all. Cost me 60 bones vs. 96 for the elimination pipe. Sounds GREAT with straight pipe and keeping the CAT.

I've asked this same question a couple of times, and not gotten any responses. I'd like to do the same thing, but $96 for a bent pipe from geno's is outrageous. It would seem to me that maybe the intermediate pipe could be twisted around enough to almost if not perfectly achieve alignment with the tailpipe. then you would only need a section of 3. 5" pipe flared on one end ($14 from summit racing).

I still want to try doing that, but I've already got a 2" leveling kit, fuel pressure gauge plumbing, and 5 gallons of AMSOil ATF sitting on the bench all waiting to be installed. I just have no time to get any of it done. :(

Good luck!!!

Andy

I replaced the stock muffler with a 51" Donaldson on my '03. I paid $70 to a guy at Meineke to do it but basically he cut the stock muffler off and shortened the intermediate pipe to make room for the "torpedo". He then rotated the intermediate pipe to eliminate the off-set issue. Since mine is an '03, I had to get a 4" to 3. 5" reducer to place between the stock intermediate pipe and the Donaldson inlet.
