You guys that have swapped out the stock muffler with a straight through (Donaldson, Nelson, Silent Might etc. . ), how are you getting the stock piping to line up or are you having a new tailpipe bent? I thought I remember a post that says you can make it fit but I don't see how since the original unit had the offset. What about the hangers?... . I assume you would have to weld some up either way.

I swapped out my stock muffler with the MBRP replacement (MK96116) a few months ago and I like it a lot when I'm not towing but for the long camping trips it has to go. I figured I would go with the Donaldson M090544 or the Silent Might to keep things quiet.

I also see that Stan's has a cat back bolt on but it has the M085171 Donaldson which I'm not sure will be quiet enough.

On my 03 I did the M090544, what made it all line up on that one was the use of a Banks 4" downpipe that deleted the cast elbow, then off the down pipe a straight section of 4" to the Donaldson, from there the OEM tailpipe fit just right.

I have not done exhaust on my 05 yet. . been holding out cuz I like quiet.

Supposedly the Silent Might is more quiet than the M090544 but the Silent Might is straight through where the M090544 you cannot see through however the flow rating is sufficient.

Silent Might for sale

I installed a Silent Might with a glass pack in front and immediately notice a quicker low end on the 03 HO 6 speed but I had two resonances of 100 rpm at 1400 and 1800. On the road empty at 65 (1950 rpm) and I couldn't hear it but get in these rpm areas and I didn't like it. Mostly though crossing an intersection and I was embarassed for the pedestrians. Pinnacle Power Exhaust in Dubois, Wy. installed their 4 inch turbo back with two of their mufflers in series(straight thru) and I'm happy. More noise than stock but very nice sound and not loud. They have welded hangers to muffler clamps so they suspend everything that way, with the clamps, cool. They also have a dual setup that splits after the muffler and I rode in their truck set up this way and I heard nada, nothing but engine, no tail pipe noise at all.

O yeah, I've a Silent Might, and glass pack used 2 months, 4 inch turbo down pipe unused, for sale. The might has hangers installed for reverse installation, the manufacturer said that was fine and it was a little quieter.

That bits, not very favorable.

So did you have it installed in the more noisy configuration?

It sure would be neat to hear from someone who has had the M090544 and Silent Might back to back for noise comparisons.

On the 03 I had my goal was more flow while staying as quiet as possible so I tried a Donaldson "Silent Partner" 4" in and 5" out, it was awfull. . just a very deep drone. After that I did all 4" with their M090544 for a huge noise reduction with no drone but still more noise than stock.

Silent Might

Yes, I had it installed foward before I added the glass pack. It was just a little better reversed so I welded the hangers on and left it that way when I added the glass pack in front of the Silent Might. I had a piece of flex from where I made up to the existing 3. 5 inch (didn't change the down pipe at this time, no added hp), and I believe it may have contributed to the resonance or perhaps was the evil culprit alone. Probably should have had a 5 degree offset bent just to see but I'm real happy with the sound of the Pinnacle system now so anybody interested in the Might let me know.

Any body know a shop in eastern PA that can work with 4" to install a Donaldson? I've called around to everyone local I can think of and no one wants to fab anything... ... all they want to do is bolt on kits.

Granted, my system is 5" but basically the same muffler specs as a 90544 'cept in a 5" took about 75% of the droan away when towing. Pretty happy now.
