thinking of puting straight pipe in place of muffler, is it going to be loud in cab? I were ear plugs riding my Harley on long rides would I need to do the same in the truck. . Chris

I believe with a straight pipe, you will have the dreaded drone--probably up around 2500 rpm. Should sound good up to there, though.

Hello,

If you are wondering if you should install a straight pipe? If you want to turn heads while pulling a heavy load up a long grade? This is the mod you want to do.

That may be something worth looking into depending where you live. I know that my brother has had his straight pipe for over two years now and he has had no problems in Ohio.

I live near columbus ohio and i got numerous warnings with 2 different AMC's, both sporting a 258cid I-6, but never with my Ram. All be it, my fiance has heard me aproaching her house loaded/unloaded at over a mile:D :-laf With stock routing i didnt have too much problem with the noise. Ive had to shorten it to come out in front of the wheel like the early F-150's due to a rust problem in the exh. pipe, and its pretty loud at like 54- 60 in 5th.

Before, I think the reverb got going around 1600-1700 rpm and then again around 2300-2400 area, but was somewhat quiet at hiway speeds.

And it WILL turn heads... Run it hard to 2600 and hit that clutch your turbo will bark so loud its incredible, most people hear that long before any thing, and with that kind of RPM its reminicent of sitting up at bowling green at ntpa nationals when the pro-stock diesels hit the dirt... ...

PS- I got my muff elimination kit from tuffy muffler. < a 6' x 3" pipe at a cost of less than $7 two years ago > I like Geno's but $70 is too much for a kit that dont even take out the resonator;)

My truck likes to haul farmalls too, but the track poundin' trophy winner is an Oliver 99 with (dare i say it! ) a 2-cycle detroit diesel... .
