Competition Drag racing?

Competition 10 days till hilmar

These are all real, and as close to the way they were said as possible.

As they rolled a fan in front of a Duramax on the Dyno:

"What is that fan for?"

"If they put the fan in front of it, they don't have to strap it down. "

***********

Stefan:

"We didn't think you guys were this serious about Sled Pulling. Some of those trucks smoke more idling then we do wide open. "

***********************

Texas Diesel Kid:

"Gene, as your truck rolled past the 300 ft mark, I had this overwhelming urge to buy Amsoil!"

************************************

Sled Puller to Strick-9:

Strick: "They said we run agin after that class. "

SP: " Good, if you start now, you can start building boost and have enough to roll by the time you get up there. "

***************************

Piers:

What does he say that is not funny?

****************************

Bill Kondolay, Friday night, about 1000 times:

Hey Gene, didn't you get beat by a Duramax last year?

More later.

**from the obvious NON Dodge/Cummins owner announcer, every time a Dodge hooked to the sled**

“and that’s a 5. 9 in that dodge"

Good one Todd!

Another one after the pulls,

"I don't care what Joe Donnelly says, those trucks have more than 400 HP. "

Understatemant of the year, perhaps. :D

"I don't care what Joe Donnelly says, those trucks have more than 400 HP. "

So what is it... ..... 410, 420 tops!;) Maybe Miss Cleo will chime in;) SP, that one nearly killed me, thanx. LOL

I laughed my butt off when I read that! Someone was quick on their feet.

THIS JUST IN!!

From a certain West Coast Hp Guru, to a certain East Coast Diesel Sport promotor:

"This weekend was an eye opener. We are not even close out there. "

Perhaps the 8100 rpm at 200+ # of boost truck made him a believer?:--)

Gene, I totally agree on the smoke issure, some of them sled pulling trucks smoked more than mine at WOT :) , they must have some VERY BIG FIRE HOSE INJECTORS. Really cool to watch while pulling the sled.

Yeah Gene how did they get that one back on the trailer?? Did a bunch of guys push it? Or did the Loader just drag it off the track and on the trailer? :D :D Just Kidding... ... ..... :-{}

First off. Hats off to Gene. Great pulls.

I had an absolute blast this weekend. I sure learned a lot of lessons though. A tight converter and an H2E turbo are NOT a good pulling combination. Everyone that knew me was ducking their heads in shame as my truck crawled past the 75 ft mark still boiling smoke with 0 psi of boost. Thank goodness it finally hit. The best part was the announcer telling the crowd that I was easing into the throttle to avoid tire hop. LOL!

While we're on the topic of an H2E and a tight converter, it's not a good combination for drag racing either. :)

My time slip showing 1/4 mile ET of 16. 9 with a trap speed of over 102 mph is just beyond words.

But I still had a blast. I can't wait to see the Scheid truck make a complete run without breaking. That thing will be amazing.

Need to clarify...

I can't wait to see the Scheid truck make a complete run without breaking. That thing will be amazing.

Was that truck the one with the pipe exiting out the hood? Whichever truck it was, that grenaded at the end, that whole situation kind of bothered me since I believe the flagman at the full pull line should have shut down that run, at least in the idea of safety. The block was blowing (what i believed to be antifreeze) at a high velocity, from approx 100 ft. mark. It was pretty obvious something was wrong, but if nothing was wrong they could have just let him pull again. JMHO.

Same type of thing happened at Rt 66 Raceway in IL at the Team Demo nite. A monster truck had broken axle (looked at first like a shock mount) but as he was turning the axle and wheel was obviously seperated but the driver did not realize it. He continued on to jump a car and just totally wrecked the truck, because the front made the jump but the rear decided it was totally done for the day. The driver thought he was just hung up and was just pounding the throttle. What made me angry about that is the damage was made worse by the crew member not hitting the ignition interruptor that is on all monster trucks. It is just I feel bad for these guys to put time and money in this kind of stuff and have other responsible track personnal drop the ball, which ends up made a bad situation worse.

Does any body know what was the cause and what was the damage?

Can't say that I've ever seen a Scheild truck not brake. :( That company has tons of $$$$ to dump into thier trucks so don't feel too bad for them they probible have a spare motor sitting around in the shop. ;) If they ever do get one of those trucks to stay in one peace everyone better look out because that thing was screamin down the track. I like the carnage but that's also the reason I don't pull my truck anymore just too much money envolved in keeping things from breaking. :{ David Gress also trashed his truck, (the white dually that says Pullin For Jesus) toasted the injection pump on that one. Back to Enterprise Engine it goes. :p It's just part of the hobby of truck pullin I guess. ;)

Breakage

It doesn't bother me when things break, that is racing. Heck it happened to me the first time I took my sled to the 1/4. Forgot a oil injection line while doing some re-jetting and toasted the block and piston (for you sled guys, it was a XLT with the mono-block $$$, not just a cylinder jug) it did win the race though. My issue was really due to something that was obvious should have been avoided.
