Here is One of the truest statements ever spoken... ...

"EVERYONE NEEDS A JEFF"

that was Scott (Massdiesel) refering to Jeff (Straight6Jeff)

after Jeff Picked up the front of a truck... .

Here is a copy of a post from another thread... .

Ok Figured I needed to expand on Jeff Picking up the truck.

The Truck that broke the transmission at the track, was using two tires as Jack Stands. The trucks front tires were on the two tires (one on each side). Well After Bill, Scott, and maybe 5 other people were done installing the fixed transmission instead of jacking the truck up to pull out the tires... . He did what I am sure most would do (especially after a long HOT day of working under the truck) he attempted to back off the tires... ... . Well, he almost made before the tires (ones being used as stands) flipped up and stuffed the bumper, and wedged between the tires and the bumper. Someone yells out get the Jack..... Jeff says Hold on I'll get it..... Rahhhhhh ok back up... ... "Everyone Needs a Jeff" Jeff aka The Human Jack, had a tool for everyone no matter what they needed... .

Jeff U Da Man.....

Darren

Yep, Jeff saved my bumper covers and possiably the tires too.

We did put a jack under the ft diff and jacked it up, but it wasn't near high enough on the pass side. As we were contimplating what to do, Jeff just grabed ahold of the bumper and lifted. Problem solved...

(Note to self. Self, NEVER pi$$ this guy off !!)

Again, I couldn't have ask for a better group of people to be associated with... You all saved the day!!

If anyone could e-mail me a list of everyone who you may have seen helping with the transmission work I'd sure appreciate

it. They ALL need to be thanked again, and publicly too!!

Johnny5, as the president of Quaethem Family Motorsports, and one who has seen this truck pull many times, there was absolutely no reason to stop that truck. the water exiting the truck was coming from the overflow tube. It was determined later that the truck had blown a head gasket. There was absolutely no danger to competitors or spectators at any time. My guys on the flags were well aware of the water coming from the truck. They were also well aware of the problem with the Dave Gresh truck. Again no danger to spectators or competitors. The drivers/ builders are well aware of what their truck is doing as they pull that sled. Myself and others have discussed options as to warning drivers about percieved problems as they pull down the track. We are looking into possible remote warning devices and or shutdown devices. One of the problems with shutting down a vehicle pulling a sled, is the fact that after you have killed the truck, the sled will continue forward hitting the truck. This results in more damage to the truck and possible injury to the driver of the truck and sled operator, not to mention the track officials and crew members. Also the Monster truck "Disaster" you referred to was not in the hands of the crew members, but in the hands of the USHRA, who is in control of the remote shutdown devices. This "Sport" has become a demo derby of sorts, where the fans expect to see trucks break and or roll over. The driver of that truck more than likely knew he had a problem but was being paid to put on a show, Which it sounds to me, he did. Again unless there is danger to spectators or competitors they will not normally shut down a vehicle.

I hear ya DQ....

Thanx for the info. I understand your point with shutting down a pull remotely could create a bigger problem, definitely don't want to do that. Believe me in that I was not trying to find fault in anybody, just trying to bring up a point that I was concerned about. And since it has been a topic of discussion in the past, I now know it hasn't gone unaddressed. It was just that the pressure of that overflow just looked tremendous.

As for the monster truck incident, it was not a USHRA sanctioned event, it was only a two truck exhibition and the only people that were there for the truck part were two drivers and a crew member. The regular track crew just stepped aside and let the crew member run the exhibition. I would have shut down the truck from what I saw cause it was pretty messed up prior to the jump and I know sponsorship money doesn't necessarrily grow on trees. This is only my opinion and I understand it could be wrong.

Again, thanx for the response,

Johnny5

And you *definitely* don't want to be inside the trailer trying to sleep when this story is being told! You won't sleep, and you'll only hear every other sentence or so. :( But I'm sure I'll hear the whole tale one day.

The story was truly on of the funnest things I think I have EVER heard in my life. I am still laughing about it, and that was 5 days ago. If nothing else, it made the whole trip worth it to hear it.

I don't know about Merrick, I have not seen him since we split in Dallas and he headed out for Lardo(his home). I am going to call him today, but he would have paged me if he would not have made it.

Fest, my girl told me the same thing. :p
