Competition Who's Da Man

Competition Sat June 12th, London, OH pull still on

A 10 second Dodge truck, 8 second rail and a lot of 11-12 second diesels was really cool to watch. Dmaxes did well in the drags.

This was my first Muncie. I will never miss another. The people and trucks and parties and pulls, drags... the drive out meeting up with friends and on and on

Highest HP at the Event went to Opie from WA at 738hp and he maxed out the dyno at 1200lbs of torque after pulling 18000lbs all the way to Muncie. Hey Gene sounds like he pulled to me!

Gene, from what I heard from some of the fans in the grandstands the sled had its brakes on when Opie was trying to take off. THIS IS NOT AN EXCUSE! I heard this from some people I dont even know while standing in line at the conssesion stand.

Not to take anything away from any of the big HP dyno trucks.

Hats off to them for their hard work and dedication.

Trucks like Erik Stacey's EEP pulling truck, Kent Crowders/Scheid truck, along with Haisleys "ROCK HARD RAM".

These trucks are in a different world of horsepower... . that is far from the street style trucks that ran on the dyno saturday.

These trucks are the very extreme of the Diesel Pickup performance world.

If you dont think so... . You just dont know or are really in dream land.

Opies dad was driving and was a bit nervous and wanted to take off easy. Being that he left easy the tires had good traction and as he gave it more throttle with good traction it was loading the truck down. When he finally started to put the hammer down and would have spun the tires somthing gave.

I think what needs to be understood is that in Scheid / Haisley pulling world power is made a big rpm. These are not street motors... They would suck on the street. When people ask me if I think they are over 1khp, I usually say no way... :) Are they? No question. :p

What amuses me, David, is people think that Jetpilots 886, Joes 799. 9 etc are all just normal dayly drivers, with mostly stock parts.

People believe those numbers, that have never seen the trucks.

So why is it so hard to believe, that a full blown race Diesel engine is over 1000 hp?

Are we to believe, instead, that a company like Scheids or EEP puts all the dollars and testing into these engines that cannot be driven on the street, just to have 500 hp?

Or better yet, just 10 hp or so past Jetpilot. Street truck=886, full race engine 896?

Fuzzy math. :D

From what I saw, Van Haisley's truck is right there with Scheid. Soon enough these guys numbers will become public, and when they do, they will not be believed. They might be engine dyno numbers but it'll be so far above 1000 hp you could take a 30% drivetrain loss and still be over 1000rwhp.

How come big bad Opie couldn't move the sled?

You just can't stop getting after Opie can you Sleddy?

What is it you have against the guy anyway?

1) He has a truck that actually drives to an event and dyno's

2) He is willing to race and pull the same daily driver?

3) He lives on the West Coast?

Uh, nothing Hoss, we get along, he takes his shots, I take mine,do you not read NW Bombers? We started trash talking over a year ago on DTTs message board. :)

I got to see the modified/unlimited trucks run at TiM and I would hate to have to guess at what power they are making but they definitly are in a class of there own.

FLAGMAN error---FLAGMAN error---FLAGMAN error

or

SLED OPERATOR error---

did these guys have radios or just the green/red light and green/red flag????

chris

I talked to Opie, the Flagger, and the Sled Operator.

A first hook attempt was made, more bounce than pull, Opies Dad let off, and was going to go again, the green flag was out, but the sled was not ready, so the brakes went on.

This all happened very quickly.

Nobody was out to get anybody, and I apologize to Opie for taking the cheap shots about his truck not being able to move the sled.

Darn and I thought we was gonna see a lynching;) Over at the NW bombers they were taking donations to put out a hit against Gene. :D

I do not know why people doubt 1000 horsepower when the tractor pullers have been around this level for a while with the same basic engine size and comparable mods. Streetable, no. But for competition it could most certainly be done. -Dave

Dave,

People doubt it because they do not possess the knowledge to build this kind of power.

Also they have not seen it or do not have this kind of power in their AREA.

The words jealous or envious comes to mind.
