Who was really tuned in for the birth of the Mustang 5.0 movement in the late 80’s? I was, even though I was far from owning or wanting to own one, it was hard to ignore.
Since this thread started, I found “Uncle Tony’s Garage” on You Tube, and I realized it is a guy from Staten Island that I knew, and while he was (still is) a Mopar guy, he also helped start some magazines, and along with 2-3 other guys, ignited the whole 5.0 movement. Here is a reprint of the article that started it all, and was shot and written in Staten Island, Brooklyn, and at Englishtown, back when these places still had a street scene. Tony was and is a real lunatic. Enjoy.

I went from my '65 K motor Mustang to my '83 GT, first year for the four barrel, and T5 five speed. That car was very bad for my license.

Here is my bother's ride. He has had it for 21 years. Most likely the finest nearly stock Pantera in existence!

His is a vehicle that my brother owned for 3 or 4 years and he sold it to me in 1967 when I returned from a year in Thailand. It had a mid built 283 and T10 four speed. I swapped the 3.36 gears for 4.11's. A year or so later I traded it for the 67 SS350 Camaro.

My brother bought a 65 Impala Super Sport, it later had a quadjet fire or electrical fire and burned to the ground.

A K code Mustang huh? I hope it was a 4 speed.
Top loader

It was not an original K Code car. It was an A Code, 289 4V. The guy I bought it from got the K motor out of a 66 GT. It had a T10, and he was drag racing it and kept breaking the T10, so he put the top loader in it. It had a Manley cam and springs, Mallory dual point, etc. So cammed up it would hardly idle. I gotta say that was a motor that could punch above its weight.
