Then how do you know there's play in the driveshaft?

The play in the drive shaft, is it side to side or up and down; from back to front. I bet you money is the damn U joint's... Do you have a shutter when you slow down or take off?

I was going to post something on my own, but I am having a similar problem. I'll just butt in :) on your thread. About 100 miles ago (my '03 truck has 75,200 miles on it) I started getting a shutted on deleleration and I am starting to feel it over 55 mph. I figure it is a u-joint, but I had it on the lift today and the joint appears to be tight. There is play in the output slip shaft of the t-case. I am a little worried that I am loosing the rear bearing in the t-case. I am also finding fluid on the frame rails of the truck. I know you can't always tell if the joint is bad until you pull the shaft, which I will be doing this week so I will know more then. I do also realize that a loose joint will allow some wobble and cause fluid loss from the rear seal. When static the seal does not leak and my fluid level is still good.

I guess I was wondering if there is suppose to be some play because on a Jeep NP231 which is just a smaller version of the t-case they is vertually no play in the slip yoke.

TTT for any additional thoughts.

Thanks,

Aaron

Well, I answered my own question. I pulled the ds and the lower universal was seized. I guess the vibrations are causing the t-case to seap oil past the seal. I guess a little play at the t-case is normal.
