My 05 6.0 would walk off & leave my 07 5.9

Ford decided to equip their trucks with a 5 speed and Dodge decided to equip theirs with a 4 speed, only choices in the matter for an auto transmission, so it sure is comparing apples to apples when making a purchase decision or comparing drivability, performance, and towing capability.

quite true! I got my truck because I wanted the best, that IS what I got! ... for me. but we have more than one truck builder for a reason, competition can be a GOOD thing!

The Ford Five Speed Is A Way Better transmission Than The Dodge Stock To Stock, The Dodge transmission Doesnt Put The Power To The Ground, If Your Dodge Had A Manual Trans You Would See Alot Different Outcome...

I traded a 05 SRW CC SB auto 3. 73 6. 0 F350 in on a 07 DRW Mega auto 3. 73 5. 9 3500. Now I liked the Ford & I would have keep the Ford but could not keep it out of the shop so it is gone. That said I also like the Dodge but it will not pull our 5er like the Ford did. It run's good on the flatland on the interstate. I like to run around 62 but when I get in hills will kick it up to around 70 & it pulls the hills better than at 62. Now where it really sucks is on secendary roads in hills, like when you have to slow to go around a curve when up a hill the Ford pulled a lot harder. We live & work on the road. Now wife pulls our 5er & she is not happy with the power the Dodge has pulling the same fifth wheel. I drive the work truck a GMC 05 DRW extcab LB D/A not sure on rear end but think it is a 4. 1 {it would pull with the Ford & get the same mileage as the Dodge} it does not go in shop pulls good but just do not like the GMC. If I would have liked it I would have gotten a GMC instead of the Dodge

I still think you are just in the stage where you are getting used to how a different truck pulls. I had a couple dmax trucks and a Ford 7. 3, I never did the 6. 0 experiement. I just can't imagine the Dodge not having enough power compared to the 6. 0. Instead of flooring the pedal like you do in the Ford and letting it rev, let the Cummins take the higher gear at lower rpm and build some boost, it will pull, just in a different way.



I have driven my buddy's 6. 4 Ford, pretty quick, pulls hard, gets 14mpg. Wouldn't trade my 5. 9 for one. Still can't do the GM trucks, too carlike for me.



You have been given some suggestions. Smarty Jr would probably be all you need to impress your wife. That or get a 6. 4 or a dmax. What you describe just hasn't been my experience. You could also go back to a 6. 0 and have your speed and dealer visits. I'm not sure what you are asking for at this point.

I have used a duramax from time to time and it does a good job but it produces power completely diffrent than the 5. 9. you really have to spin it to make power and it kinda gives the illusion of pulling better and empty it feels quicker but there is no way I would trade. the extra gear the ford has does help it pull better but then again with the great torque across the board it doesn't need alot of gears

It's like racing a ricer on the highway. at 70mph I don't bother to down shift to 5th (1:1, manual). I could, 5th gear winds out around 90mph, but 1200 foot pounds for torque. at a lower RPM works better at that point. naturally if Im coming from 4th gear I'll run out 5th. The Rice drops like 3 gears to have any chance.



Same applies for the auto I'm 95% sure. 3rd being 1:1, it wont' down shift unless you really floor it.



Ford's and chevys will down shift. Im 95% sure, the cummins auto will stick in 4th and pull at that speed.



I'm most likely completely off on this 48re auto down shifting tho.
