As in my preveous posting about how well my 05 did during rescue operations in New Orleans, I'd like to mention how the 05 did just returning from doing rescue work from Rita. We went down "fully loaded" again and with the addidtion of new 315/75/17 /BFG all-terrains
(off of a H2 hummer)too. We were deployed down into the Cameron area which was devastated beyond belief... :{
My heart goes out to everybody down there.
We had to traverse miles of water, but not quite as deep nor as vile as with Katrina.
My front rims again looked like I did a lousy job of spraypainting them rust red with all the brake dust coming off the brakes. Mix this dust with the petrochemicals in the water and it became a psycadelic covering over the tires and rims. . Yuck!! With all the brake dust that blew out during my two trips to LA, you'd think that the front brakes would be toast. But lo and behold, upon inspection the pads look non the worse for wear. wow!!
I again checked for water contamination in the axles and transfer case and non was found. Again, thank you Dodge for using your heads on where to place the axle vents.
The paint was again lambasted with vile, contaminated water and seems to be ok. I'll know more next week when I wax it.
It appears the only damage or casuality to my truck was to the rear U-joint. it's making the infamous squeaking noise, but only when backing up... . I need greasable joints!!
Milage was in the 10 MPG range and considering how loaded down the truck was and how terrible an airboat is to tow, I consider myself lucky.
All in all, my 05 has done a great job of hauling rescue equipment long distances and into hostile enviroments with nary a complaint!! I'm a happy camper. . Oo.
Only 3 months old and over 9XXX miles on the odo. . Ouch. . It didn't bother me when I was using my 97 with 170,XXX miles on it, but it's a little harder with the new baby. . Anyone else out there like me to "break in" your new truck for you? I guarantee abuse and lots of hard miles. I promise!! :-laf
