It seams like it getting louder. When on the enterstate that I notice it the most. When I let up on the fuel peddle the wine goes away. Is this commen for the 06?Its a 2500 short bed and only has 5000 miles on it.

Maybe if you give it some cheese the wine will go away?

All joking aside, the whine is not normal. Before it gets worse take it to the dealer and have them look at it. It is probably low on oil, but could have been assembled incorrectly...

P. S. Are you sure it's not the turbo whining?

06 Rear End Whine

KennethS

My 04 CTD had the same rear end whine, but at a constant speed of about 63 mph. Dodge calls it a "drone". They changed the gear sets in the rear end twice with no success. It did change the constant speed that it droned at with both rear end gear sets they put in. They finally swapped out a new rear end and that has cured the problem. I only had about 2500 miles on the o4 when the whine started. I now have 34,000 miles on that rearend and it hasn't droned yet.

I know if you do a search on this forum, you'll come up with it. More than one person had it.

The drone will get worse (louder) as mileage increases. Take my word on it. Get the rear end changed while it's still in warranty. :)

mine don't make any noise, and I tow 11K at times.

I still am waiting to see this TSB about switching to 90-140 oil. Before I start camping next spring I will be due for a change.

I just had the rear end new pinion gear bearings etc the rear end started to howl it started out with the pinion bearing and took the rest with it hopefully it is fixed

You should not hear the rear end either accelerating or slowing down. Sounds like pinion bearings, it won't get better. Take it in for warranty work. bg

Take a look at my post in the Towing/RV section entitled

"Towing, Got a whinny rear axle this TSB should be of interest"

I had the same problem. Save some time and have a new rear end put in. I had mine fixed twice before getting a new rear end.

I got it back from the garage and guess what

Its the turbo making that wine. I am hard of hearing and it sound like it was the rear end but it the turbo. I guess I was wrong.
