I was talking with a friend with an 06' the other day, and we both noticed that my truck was louder under the hood than his was. The truck almost has some of the 24valve clatter to it. I don't think this is right, and coupled with the very poor fuel mileage I am getting, I am beginning to wander if I have a bad injector. What do you guys think?

My '01 was louder than any other. My '04. 5 has sooooooo many quirks it drives me nuts.

Get over your truck and your "god complex' and it'll all go away. :D (inside joke if Lonestar remebers)

Somebody with a chrysler scan tool or any high end scan tool can tell you what the flow rating is coming out of each injector. make sure they are pretty close to the same. Also could it be possible the quiter truck was a california model. As much as I would like to bash on the california model and california pollution (noise, air, groundwater, etc) nonsense thats not for your thread but it is always possible for the difference.

Well, so far the best I have seen fuel mileage wise is around 13. 8 hwy/city mix. I have seen 14 on the highway at about 72mph. This is turning a little under 2k on the tach. All these numbers ARE corrected for the tire size as well.

Yes Cattletrkr I do remember that particular post :-laf :-laf

I got the 02' about 2 months ago, but I just got rid of it last weekend. I havent found the perfect truck yet to play with, so i just keep buying and selling them until I can find the right one

No the other truck wasn't a California truck. It was bought right here in Dallas.

2006 Ram 2500 4X4 Laramie Mega. 4"lift, 325/60/20's 4. 10's AFE/4inch turbo, and a lost Cat

If the above truck is the one you are refering to, the mpg is in the ball park. :)

MPG's still seem a little low too me. My 03' had 6" lift on 37"s and I could get 19+ on the hwy, and 16-17 around town.

Now I do understand that the truck will suffer some from the the modifications done, and I know that the 325/610 motors suffer in mileage from the good ole' EPA, but nearly everyone I speak to is doing substatially better with their trucks.

Sure, we all get 20 mpg towing and 30 mpg empty. It must be the way you drive. :-laf :-laf

Sorry, but thats a real common response.

There are a lot of variables that determine mileage and it differs from truck to truck. IF what is posted can be believed, there are huge differences between the exact same optioned vehicles. Which one is right? Were did the numbers come from, overhead or hand calc? What were the conditions? How long the trips? etc, etc, etc... ... ...

I have seen worse numbers than yours with my relatively stock height truck. I have also seen better. The 14 on the highway sounds low, but, how long was the trip, what were the conditions, etc, etc, etc... ...

If you suspect a bad injector an oil analysis will tell you if it is getting past the rings. If it is injectors just hanging open too long, well, there are tests for that but can you trust the tech to interpret them?

Dealer will tell you its normal, from my experience and no more info than you posted it sounds in the ball park. Good luck. :)
