It was awesome!
There is a new reservoir going up south of Parker. Parker Water and Sanitation is building it. They held an event here at the museum I work at. They had some councilmen/women, and Bob Beauprez here for helicopter tours of the reservoir and dam site.
They hired Air Cam helicopters out of Centennial Airport for the charter flights. I was in charge of figuring out where in the parking lot they were putting it down, staging people, parking, off-duty sheriff security, etc. At 9:30 or so the heli came in and I met Jim Dirker, the pilot and company owner. He shut the bird down and waited for passengers. Two flights went up and I half-seriously asked if there was an empty seat available to let me know.
Well, there was one guy going on the 3rd flight. Flora Jane, the even coordinator and I were asked if we wanted to go to fill up the seats instead of waiting for more people. We happily agreed to go!
I forgot the camera at home but used my phone camera. We flew over the site which is about 2 minutes away from the museum. One of the development guys in the left seat was narrating over the headsets about the dam. We came back and did a descending turn to check winds and he landed back in the parking lot. It was amazing. My first heli ride and it was free, paid for by politicians
The helicopter was flown by Jim from Air Cam Helicopters out of Centennial Airport. It is a 1982 Aerospatiale (now Eurocopter) AS355 F1 Twin-Star with twin 420 s. h. p. turbines.
Here are pics and info on the company and helicopter. I will post my own pics (got the camera from home at lunch and took some ground pics).
