I'm so proud. :)

I just received my first oil analysis on my '98 12-valve with 160,000 miles. I ran the Rotella 5w-40 synthetic for 10k miles with a Fleetguard Stratapore change at 5k miles and 2 quarts of makeup oil. Blackstone likes what they saw, but I know nothing about the numbers.

Should I keep running 10k intervals using this oil with 5k intervals on the oil filter?

If your truck does not change how its running , and your driving habits do not change .
Start going 3,000 miles more at a time till you get close to the averages , but change the filter at 10,000 .
You can just get the analysis at 13,000 , and just change when the numbers get average .
What you analysis does not show is whats called a TBN , thats checking to see if the additive package in the oil is good , an extra $10 .

MFalkinham- Oil analysis only makes sense from a historical perspective, unless of course the engine is getting ready to explode or seize-up. I'm assuming that Blackstone has a new oil sample analysis on the Rotella 5W40 for comparison purposes.

Extending your oil drain interval based on only one analysis is not advisable.

regards,

UOA looks great. Make sure to visit bobistheoilguy.com for more than you could ever read. In my opinion, I do not see the need to extend to huge drain intervals. Your 10k intervals are just fine, no need for more. Oil is cheap, engines are not. Just my opinion.

I'm wasn't planning to extend past 10k, as it's an easy interval to remember and document. I guess I'm wondering if changing the Stratapore filter halfway through the 10k interval is necessary, or if I'm throwing away a perfectly good filter (and my money).

I was also interested in seeing how the engine internals were holding up since I just bought the truck last year with 140k on it. It appears from the results that the previous owners changed the oil somewhat regularly.

Thanks for the replies so far.

What I would do is cut the stratapore open and take a look at it. If the media is not plugged, run the full 10k but no longer. I was told the stratapore is the best you can get besides a bypass setup.

I'd say unless those are mostly highway miles/long trips I'd stick with 5k filter changes. . . those are fairly cheap too! Plus the makeup oil helps keep what's in the sump a little fresher.
