I have recently purchased a silver, 6 speed Ho 2004. 5 3500 dually and already started bombing. Jannetty racing in waterbury Ct. has been doing most of the work. They treat you good and are very reputable. So far my mods include afe intake modified to fit under the hood , banks 4" turbo back exhaust, Va stage 2 duration box, fass fuel delivery system, autolite pro comp fuel, egt and boost gauges. I also just purchased an Hx40 with 16cm exhaust houseing turbo today and will install it over the weekend. The concensus was the standard hx would probably work the best, time will only tell. I guess im the guinea pig at this point but i trust Ted's judgement. I'll keep everyone informed on how the truck responds to the new turbo upgrade after the weekend. If all is well Im going to stack a pressure box put in a clutch and and drop the injectors in within the next few weeks or as soon as they are available.

Great, I'm really curious to see how that turbo handles the egt's that the va duration creates, I've got that va on a 600 & it puts out the power but I have to be easy because of the hot egt.

Let us know as soon as you can! And also be carefull with the pressure box and your 600, Most of them make power but its a little violent.

HX40 Turbo Lag

The HX40 is know for its turbo lag, so you may want to consider having it machined for a silencer ring and installing a Turbo Air Guide (TAG) to make the turbo spool quicker.

The TAG worked wonders for me in reducing the lag on my PDR40. 99% of the time, I run on the ECM and injectors (DD2's) only, so maybe a little more fuel from larger injectors would light it up a little faster too. When I went to the TAG-II, I was amazed at the increase in spool-up over even the TAG itself. Granted, the TAG-II won't fit a HPCR Cummins yet due to the intake routing and oil filter placement, so the TAG unit would be a nice addition to a BOMBed HPCR

Well i finally finished installing the HX40 to my 2004. 5 600 cummins. Im still breaking it in so i cant tell you anything about its performance enhancement. I'll drive the truck with the duaration box off for the next 500 miles or so. I put 50 on today so it wont be long. Tommorrow ill be towing about 10,000lbs so I'll be able to get a good idea on how well it controls the egt's. It should be cooler since i went from a 9cm exhaust to a 16cm. I'll know for sure soon.

Im stumped i thought installing a bigger turbo hx40 w/16cm exhaust side housing would lower EGT'S when in fact they went up. The truck dropped from 34psi to 25 psi which I expected. What in the world could be causing the rise in EGT'S? they went up when the truck was empty and towing. I have an Afe intake and 4" turbo back exhaust. I took apart and checked all the intake and intercooler lines for kinks and leaks everything is right on.

That's not what I wanted to hear Dozer, you're right it doesn't make sense, you got me stumped. Talk to Jannetty, they should know. Keep us updated.

dozer are your EGTs up under all driving conditions? When cruising unloaded the HX40 will run warmer than a stock turbo due to less cruising boost but I would expect lower temps when put under load.

How high do you have your box turned up? How does it drive with the box off and how are your temps then?

Well I think I found the culprit to the high EGT's. Upon further inspection I noticed 1 of the compressor wheel fins was bent forward. Nothing was broken off or even scratched it was odd almost as if it was manufactured that way. I already contacted Jannetty racing and informed them of this I have taken the HX40 off the truck and will be going to see them in the A. M. Ted was curious to see it and drive it but I am not going to take a chance driving down and having a hand grenade blow up into my new engine. The turbo was on for only 2 days and never ran right from the time I installed it.
