My 2004 6 speed shifts very hard WHY

My 2004 Has a 6 speed manual trans. It shift hard up and down. I took It to the Dodge dealer and he that all of 6 speed shifs hard. No cure he says? :-{}

mine's a little hard when cold. after a few miles and a little heat it gets better, still has a little 'click' right as it goes into gear.



so I'd be wondering the same thing, is the clutch still holding?

Try AMSOIL or REDLINE MTL trans fliud. Just changed mine to Amsoil MTL and its now slick as butter(or as good as it gets for a NV5600. Differance of night and day.

Hi,

Assuming everything is ok with your clutch. If your hard shifting problem is right before it drops into the next gear as opposed to pulling it out of the current gear. Just to offer up a suggestion. Try 'bliping' the throttle right when you feel resistence before it falls into the next gear gear. I have found that 'bliping' the throttle ever so slightly helps it just fall into gear, especially when the oil is cold.

I just brought my new 2005 home today. It has the nv5600 & even being a truck driver for 30 yrs it's going to take a little time to get use to how she shifts along with a few miles to loosen up. Not to mention I never use the clutch on my roadranger 13 speed. I know that is not recomended on these trannys, so I use the clutch & if I'm having trouble hit a gear just double clutch it tap the throttle to bring the rpms back up & she'll slip right in.

when i got my truck i was having some trouble with it no wanting to into first gear... im good friends with the mechanic at the local dealer and he let me in on a little secret. if u add about half a bottle of friction modifier for limited slip differentials to your transmission fluid it really helps smooth it out... just something you might want to try. i have a lot of trouble remembering to use the clutch. I hope it doesn’t hurt anything to bad. It just shifts so smooth without it.

Its not desined to be shifted clutchless. It will take a toll on it.

Naw. Lets do a TEST! HEMIJUSTIN! Stop using the cluch as much as possable and let US know weekly hows it holding up. Inquiring minds need to know.

I had 32000 on my 02 6spd when I got rid of it and very seldom did I use the clutch.

ive been shifting without the clutch for as long as ive had the truck (10000miles) no problems... my brotherin law has over 200000 miles on his NV4500. only problem hes had is his fifth gear fell off. hes only on his second clutch... when they opend it up to put the gear back on they said it looked like brand new. ill let you know if i ever have any problems though... has anyone ells that doesent use the clutch had any trouble?

They all look like brand new inside until they go south. Putting the 5th gear nut on dosen't give a view of synchro wear etc. What ever. That trans is not designed to be used clutchless. The 4500 or 6500. Only certain big rigs.

they had the whole trany out as they were installing a new clutch and an overdrive befor the t- case. so they took a look inside. and i dont see how something could show no signs of wear and then just go south. they said it looked better then most that they see with less miles. but maybe our trucks are just freaks of nature... . ill let you know as soon as i have trouble
