Hi,

Does anyone know when the MY2007 rams will become available for pre-order? Also, when approximately the first ones should start actually being built on the lines?

Well, to be frank, I missed out on the 2006 ordering cutoff due to some financial problems I had. As this would be my first Dodge/cummins truck, I'd like it to be absolutely perfect, and noone has a 2006 in stock anywhere with the specs I want.

If i may digress a bit, I'd like to address your comment on the hesitancy to accept the new powerplant.

I'm a younger guy, gonna be 27 in a half a week, but I've been a diesel head since I was a kid, starting with a mercedes 300sd turbodiesel that i had turned up a bit and on to my current truck, a 1999 gmc suburban k2500 with the humble 6. 5l turbodiesel. Now, I even work in the diesel truck & bus industry as a manager of a company that services heavy trucks.

In regards to the new Cummins powerplant and its new emissions control systems:

First off, I'm a fan of Cummins and their powerplants overall. As the company has progressed I haven't seen a bad product out of them. Sure there are small issues here and there, but no generation wide issues that plague an entire engine because of poor design. The 5. 9 (notwithstanding a certain weak block issue) has been a fantastic engine in both the light and medium duty market. Its reliability is virtually unmatched and I dont think Cummins wants to destroy that reputation. I trust them more than anyone else to produce an engine that isnt plagued with problems. In fact in researching engine designs in regards to the 2007 emissions issue, I think Cummins more than anyone else has put real reliability research into both their VGT and the cooled EGR systems to provide longevity beyond competing engines (even the MBE906).

In regards to the DPF... I've worked with Donaldson and Lubrizol (two of the larger DPF manufacturers) and I've seen the product mature from its first stages where you'd actually need to physically remove the filter to clean it out all the way to its new integrated design which is self cleaning, and I must say that overall this will be a good thing. The DPF suffers more from sitting and idling in traffic than a few puffs of smoke cause at a hard throttle down.

Overall though, the whole diesel world is changing. We need to change with it. I am sure that in a short time, the performance products will catch up with the new engines and everyone will calm down again... that is... till the NEXT new thing comes out...
