i posted a history on the 53 block cracking . this was taken from cummins info. its on the 24 valve engine and transmission board. kind of interesting. maybe not since no responses.

Show us picture of the crack????

anybody have a picture of these cracks????? Mine just knocked off 193,000 miles - running like a top... ... ... ... ... AND there was a discussion earlier about certain 53 blocks being made differently.

correct me if im wrong but doesnt the Red Rocket have a 53 block. i think i just read this on the nw bombers site. i dont have this problem but if my sigiture would help stick it to chrysler ill give you 2 :D

I have a 99 with a 53 block. I have about a 8" long crack and have been babying it along for about 20K now. I have been using solder seal from NAPA, and seems to slow the leak. I just can't pull anything as the crack comes right back immediately. I have talked to Cummins and waiting to hear back on $1000 offer. I have been fighting Dodge for 3-4 months on this. I finally told them I was considering talking to a lawyer and they said go ahead they have 2 floors of them. What a way to treat the owner of two Dodge trucks. I also plan to file a complaint at http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/ I really encourage all to file a complaint to maybe create alittle pressure on them.

I just clicked on the link to the "NHTSA". On the home page there is a "Defect Investigations" tab. Click on the tab and open a complaint form. File the form with the "NHTSA". They post the complaints for all to see. If they get enough complaints they will take action. As stated in a previous post the look a percentage of complaints ratio to the number of blocks produced. If the number is low "no go", if it is high the complaint will "fly".

I have a 98. 5 St. Louis December 97 built truck. I have 186K on the truck and I have not had any leaks.

Where do you look to find out where your truck was built? Mine is a 99 112k. Count me in on any Class Action. I am ready to fight!!! Let's get this in the media and see DC, and Cummins cringe. It is pretty bad when I fill my toolbox with antifreeze just to brave going out of town. I am also afraid to tow! This must stop right here. Well... lets go!!!

After the KDP issue, and this "53" block, I will never have any confidence in another Cummins product. I guess that is why they have a 100K warranty,

but, a defect is still a defect. Can't be too hard on the PS or Duramax when I have these issues with my truck.

53 bolck

The first number or position, in the vin. number designates were the truck was built. A "1" means that it was built in the USA,and a "3" means Mexico.

The 11th position is the city the truck was built. J-St. Louis, S-Dodge City,G, Saltillo, and M-Lago Alberto.

On the left side "B-Pillar", is the "Safety Certification Label", the last line has a designation MDH: Month, Day, and Hour the truck was built. The first line has the Date of Manufactury, listed by month and year.

All this information came from the Dodge Service Manual, Introduction, Pages 1-4. Hope this answers your question.

65k..... no cracks... ..... thinking about selling up near 90k... ... isn't that a shame, ..... ya,..... I'm scared. .

Count me in too!
