I fired up my 94 the other morning and it poured out blue smoke. I left home and it wouldn't rev above 1200 it spit spuddered missed, felt like a flooded gas engine then it died and wouldn't start at all. Any suggestions?

Could be bad fuel...

Were you able to get a whiff of the exhaust? Coule be a bad seal in the injection pump or lift pump, causing a lot of oil to get in the fuel. Check the oil level...

Keep us posted...

What day? Only been a couple of "cold" days lately.

It actually sounds like gasoline in it, but if that's not the case, then it's probably a lack of fuel... gelling, waxing, or perhaps you have some ice crystals clogging the fuel filter.

wont run

Your post was on the 28 dec--- what did you find?? off the cuff 1200 rpm/blue smoke not knowing maintance last (filter change) / or just got fueled? I'd check the filter for water---after i replaced it. . What di you find??

blue smoke

If you have read my post and bio- you can tell I,m tuned in to my truck. The first thing was to set up test, stock air filter 25k seemed as it was pluged to electronic's hit 24999. 9 miles and the fuel milage droped like a rock. . after the third went with k&n -bought two,run one -clean the other-2 min to change. You do the math. was hitting 200k in the first year. . $$$

Fuel filter side change twice a year -- nov & april Or 100k

First fuel filter i ran just to see what the limit was first noticed a blue hase in the right rear view mirror at 72mph up hill in mo. backed down to 65-69 gone everything seemed ok eased back up to 70--ok--72 blue haze. pulled off interstate changed out filter pushed it to 80 NO blue . . milage was 130k and change. . then determinded to change f/fltr at 100k frome that time on. mind you i was fueling up more than once a day. BUT every nite before going to bed I DRAINED the water /fuel valve -rain or -30 below/1oo deg...

Knot knowing what has been done I'd look here first. 2 nd air cleaner.

Well I finally got around to changing the fuel filter, and that was it. It was 90% water. Now it runs but I still have the blue smoke problem,I am thinking that I need a new overflow valve.

Blue

I'm just guessing here, but if youdidnt have the smoke then it just showed up say when pushing it-but not at say crusing at say 55, air filter may be needed,My air filter seemed to be hooked to the speedo,no matter what at 24-25 K mph droped like a rock and when demanding the max smoke. Another note on the fuel fitler i change mine twice a year Nov & April But drain seperator every day. That is about 100k between change.

Once i had to change a 5k Got a slug of water (only bought 5 gal to get across the state line) New station also.

I talked to Piers, and he said it sounds like the timing slipped. Passed 1200 it burps and spits and smokes and spudders when its cold. When it warms up it seems to run fine.

6BT, why dont you try pinching off the return line at the overflow valve with a pair of pliers, rev the engine up and if the smoke clears go for a new overfloe valve, I saw you mentioned alot of water this is hard on any kind of a spring and possible the overflow spring is broken . Just an idea.

no way timing slipping then --running ok when warmed up If warming up then smoothes out would be more inclined to suppect injector or weak cyl.

You can have a weak one that is not bad enough to miss(dead) and then clears out(not easy to detect) once heat gets up on that cyl.

infar red sensor works easiest but a cup of water and dabing the finger from the cup to the exh port repeat 5 times(all cyl) and look fot which one dries the slowest, you have to dab all guickly.

If it smoothes out let it bet cold again and see if the same port comes up again. If the same one comes up again --then low cost swap inj. say like fastest drying /w slowest --Here you pray the finding's move with the inj.

I forgot to look what stat you ar from __Bu no matter when eng is cold you and all of us will have blue smokeUntill the cyl gets up to temp,at idle or say 1200. the older / mi's the longer it will take to smooth?clear out.

To say nothing about fuel Quality. .

I agree with Piers

I had this same problem when I picked up my truck from the dealer after they replaced the front cover when the KDP struck. It would not hardly run at all. It bellowed blue smoke, missed, backfired, and would not rev up when it was cold. It got a little better when it warmed up but still ran like crap. The first thing I did was go home to check the timing. It was way slow. I advanced it to 16 deg. , no more problems. The dealer didn't even check the timing when he reinstalled the pump gear. I don't know if they were just to lazy to check it or to stupid to know how to set it. Anyone who has their cracked front cover replaced at the dealer I highly suggest you get your pump timing checked as soon as possible.
