I was wondering if any of you know why my compressor is kicking in and out when my truck is set to heat. With as much as fuel costs, I don't like the idea of my compressor sucking power all winter when it has nothing to do with heating my truck.
If you have it on defrost or AC it will kick on no matter where the selector is. There isn't anything within the controls to tell you have it on heat. The temperature selector just tells the door what position to be in. I suppose you could hunt for the wire that tells the AC clutch to engage and put a switch on it.
In defrost, the compress is used to remove the mosture from the air, also the compressor is used in the winter to keep the front seal lubricated or that is what I was told. Just an idea, Jim
Is the '96 the same as my '95? On my '95 if you turn the fan speed knob to the left, you just kicked your compressor on. The only time my compressor comes on is if I turn the fan speed knob to the left or if I have the top selector knob turned to "defrost". Otherwise the compressor doesn't kick on.
I found out what you guys have said today. It only does it on either of the two defrost settings. Thanks for setting the logic to it for me. The removal of moisture is a good enough reason for me to leave it alone. Thanks guys.
