Well here one for you guys about the most recent recall notices(973 secondary hood latch & B15 throttle linkage)and my mistakes,,Truck was dropped off for the 2 recalls to be performed which ended up in it being a all day session for them,,When I recieved the call it was done my wife and I went out to pick it up after she left work,,I started the truck and left immediately due to time constraints and wheeled her out on to the street, first mistake,,I should have opened the hood and looked the job over it would have saved me for what was about to happen,,When rolling her thru the box to get on the interstate I heard a loud boost leak and being on the highway(I-83) I did not want to stop with heavy traffic and look it over, figured I'd wait till I got home, second mistake,,Exited at my exit and made it to the first light and got stopped at the light, what happened next I was not prepared for,,Pulled away at light, rowed her hard thru the box and then the mayhem began,,On the 4-5 shift the throtlle dropped wide open and stuck there as I was beginning to pass traffic on the right,,Another driver in the left lane decided to make a right turn from the left lane as I approached with my horn a blaring waring of a problem(or trying to),,No room to go anywhere so I just dropped the hammer on the brakes and turned hard right jumping the curb hard stalling the motor as i croosed the curb,,recompose myself and call for my towtruck buddy to haul my ride home and look it over and here is what I found.....

Throttle linkage-When the parts exchanger tried to do the recall B15 he removed the air horn, lower tube and both boots,,He did the lower throttle rod ends correctly and thats all,,When he reinstalled the throttle cable assembly and cruise cable he never latched them correctly so they came off and jammed into the lever and spring jamming it wide open,,The boost leaks were found during my disassembly they were the lower clamp on the tube being clamped only to the tube and not the hose and the air horn which was not tightened or torqued,,Recall notice for this work quoted 1hr labor and parts to do the job and with what I had to repair it took me 3hrs to straighten out their mess. .

Secondary hood latch-This was the only thing they did correctly,,easy job a couple of bolts and its done...

Now for todays adventure I had with them(Stetler Dodge),,I go into dealership and begin to sternly, nope thats to mild, describe in detail loudly what happened and their parts exchangers mistakes,,The assistant service writer walks out and says he needs not listen to anyone with a attitude and demeaning his "mechanic",,Now I am tuned and ballistic and demand the owner and service writer,,I get the head service writer and after he hears of my plight and ensuing adventure he calmly offers a apoligy and asks if I had any bills for them on the other repairs or towing ,which they would compensate me for(one thing I was glad to hear, but there is a catch),,When I inform him I did the necassary repairs he tells me I will recieve nothing(guess my time means nothing,3 hrs to fix their screw ups) and I should have had it towed to him for his "mechanic" to fix it,,It was at this time I left a very unhappy customer,,We all know of the "5 Star Dealer" debacles around the country and this was one reason I posted this,,Guys,if you have them done(the recalls)make sure you check all the throttle linkage assemblies over, cables and the new rod ends they install,I'd hate to see anyone have the ride I had because of my haste,,Sorry for the length, somebody kick me next time I even get a thought of any dealer touching my truck... ... Andy

WOW!!

Eric...

I was out of town and missed the post you put up or I would have just added to it. 5 Star dealership they say,I say phooeeyyy. I have called and wrote DC about my debacle and sent a letter to my Better Business Bureau. Lets see if I stir anything up that way. If not I may park out front of the dealership with a VERY large sign warning possible consumers about their 5 Star ripoff service... ... . Andy

Hammer'

Sorry to hear about the misfortune.

The dealer had a very unexperienced mechanic or one trying to get the job done fast so he could get a small commission.

Anytime you have service down and the vehicle messes up and it seems to be in the area where they were working have it towed back, matter of fact call the dealer and have them arrange the towing.

I know you were a little excited  :--) Oo. (I would have been too) when the throttle was stuck but turning off the ignition while in gear with flashers on and coasting to side of road (or if have to stopping in the lane) is the safest way to handle a stuck throttle. I had a van that would stick in passing gear and run up to 75 mph with out foot on go pedal but different situtation than yours, finally got it fixed. (actually that is when I would turn off engine and restart it)

To all Final Note do not shift into neutral when turning igniton off when engine is at high rpm or trans will blow or is it the engine, well neither would be good scenario. (auto trans)
