My air box mod

I saw pictures of where a guy put a square PVC drain cap in the bootom of is airbox. I saw this round one and thought it would be perfect to get a little more airflow.



It was about $2 from loews and about a half hour with my dremel. I just jammed it in and it is held in by friction only.

me flexible conduit to drop that down to cooler air and you just made yourself a 300 dollar setup... lol

Is there a shortage of supply air to the intake side of the air box that makes the filter minder suck down or is it a dirty filter. ?????

I was going to add a similar type set-up as you did using a toilet flange and 3" black pipe down to the bottom of the truck but I am not sure that it will help prevent sucking the filter minder down.

It will help with the filter minder. I swiss cheesed my airbox before I installed my BHAF.

My filter minder was an early 03 version and had a TSB on it anyway. The spring was weak. I could pull mine into the red with a brand new filter if I stuck my foot in it.

My filter minder was getting sucked about half way, but the filter was filthy. i didn'y want to go with the extended pvc pipe like some guys have going to the fog light vent (if they don't have any fogs), becuase i was afraid water intake could be an issue.

I did something similar and put in a Amsoil filter. Off the lot my fiter minder would indicate 70% after a WOT run so i had to do something. and having a tube run down wount pull water up as easy as you think since you still have the factory opening.

Took the airbox out, drilled a 3 1/2" hole in the bottom, put box back in, pushed a 3" black plastic pipe down through it, attached a 45 elbow at the bottom facing forward and closed up the box.

Start to finish approx. 20 min. It can't hurt and may actually help.

I went for a run with wot several times and minder had not moved.
