My alarm decided to go off this morning as I was getting out. I was at a store a little after 6 AM so I tried to turn it off quickly. The buttons on the remote did nothing at all so I got in the truck and started it up. It still wouldn't shut off! One by one, the horns (4) got disconected. The lights had quit flashing by the time I came out.

I'm not sure why it went off in the 1st place, but am I an idiot that I couldn't silence it any other way?

try putting the key in the door lock and then lock and unlock the door. It sounds like the alarm somehow got armed and for whatever reason your key fob wouldn't work. I've seen this happen on a variety of makes of vehicles with factory alarms and its always worked for me.

You probably bumped the panic button on the FOB by accident. To shut it off, you have to push and hold the panic button again for a couple of seconds. Just pushing the panic button quickly won't stop the alarm, and neither will just starting up the truck. You have to be driving over 15mph before the panic alarm will disable.

I used to set it off all the time, so I disabled this "feature" by opening up the FOBs and covering the panic button contact point with a piece of electrical tape. It hasn't gone off since. :)

I also have set mine by bumping the panic button accidently. I am sure it would have made a funny video watching me jump in/out, open hood, push buttons, cuss, cuss, cuss, start looking for tools, etc. Finally figured out the panic button thing as stated above.

I disabled the panic button a long time ago. (I bumped it a couple times and it was permanently removed)

I turned off the truck and opened the door. The headlights were on and I heard the dinger for that and turned them off. I closed the door and then the honking started. I opened the door to get the keys out of the ignition. I tried the unlock button, then the lock and unlock again. When that didn't work I tried starting it up.

It did sound kind of funny to hear 4 horns go quickly to 3 then 2, then after a bit, 1 high pitch horn occasionally muffled as my hand covered it as I broke off its mount, and finally silence. I'm sure it wasn't funny for the neighbors of the little grocery store in Elk Rapids awakened early on a Sunday morning.

I reconnected 2 of the horns (the easy ones behind the grille) a few minutes ago. Not sure if it's tourists, or locals trying to deal with the tourist traffic, but there are some REAL boneheads out there.

If you lock the doors with the fob or electric door switch and remain in the truck for more than fifteen seconds the alarm will arm (red light on dash starts to blink). Opening the door will then set off the alarm. If you manualy lock all the doors it will not set the alarm. The only way I have been able to cancel the alarm on my '04 is to lock then unlock the drivers door with the key in the door lock cylinder.

Just FYI, this works on trucks with the factory installed Sentry key system, but not for those of us who added the EVS-II Sentry system at the dealer level. The EVS-II differs in that it does not have any wiring running to the key lock in the driver's door. Thus, we must use the FOB for disarming the alarm system as the key lock will have no effect.

The EVS-II alarm on the 06 trucks can be deactivated by turning the ingnition switch to the on posistion with the key and then push a button that is hidden (ask dealer where it is hidden). Does the prior trucks not have that pushbutton? If not, I'm glad I have an 06! Oo.

There's no pushbutton that I'm aware of, and I read through the installation instructions that came with the kit for my '03. That would be nice to have.

I can't say for sure but I think Bighammer has an '03 with factory sentry (Laramie).

Exactly right. I thought starting with the proper key was supposed to kill the alarm. I really wish my truck did not have an alarm.
