Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) My Amsoil bypass filter install.

Well I finally got around to buying a bypass filter so I can save money on that expensive Series 3000 5w30 HDD oil and also prolong engine life of course. Here are pictures of the install, enjoy!

I installed the return line in the oil filler so I could monitor flow over time plus it was easy and didn't take as much hose as some other options. The hose also had a nice clean out of the way rout over there. I also installed a needle valve at the oil source so I can shut it off in case of a leak. The valve on top of the filter mount is for oil sampling.

Thanks. Yes I built the mount but other then that everything needed is included in the kit.



-Edit- The needle valves are not included in the kit.

Brass

A very neat looking job. Keep an eye on the brass fittings, though. Over time, with heat and vibration, brass can have a tendency to crack.

Matt, that is a good point on the brass fittings. I used a steel nipple between the engine and the oil supply valve for more strength and just hope the others hold up over time.

Nice looking setup and bracket... . but don't know if I would use a needle valve... they are VERY resrictive.

Adding the Amsoil bypass is something I've considered doing since 1982. (Obviously, it was not for a Cummins then. ) Other than lack of time, money and laziness, brass fittings were a factor in not doing it. Northern Tool (formerly Northern Hydraulics) carries steel fittings for hydraulic lines, such as used in log splitters. FreeBMW, the purpose of the system is to filter the oil much better then the full flow filter can thereby reducing engine wear and making longer drains possible, which saves money. Look at this link to read more about what it does and how it works: http://www.amsoil.com/products/bf.html



I paid $160 including shipping and tax for the filter mounting kit plus one BE-100 filter. I have a preferred customer membership with Amsoil so I get a discount.
