I am glad you like your Dodge truck with its Cummins engine in it.

Would you like your Dodge truck with a Dodge diesel in it ????

Not a german diesel , not a Cat diesel , A Dodge diesel in it.

Think about the Ball joints all breaking and wearing out at 30,000 miles

Think about the bad steering Dodge made for years and keep saying its O. K.

that way. Then there are the good lift pumps we dont want to leave them out. I bet if Dodge stoped putting Cummins engines in the trucks you would not have one ( BillGotthelf ) Good looks dont make it move that Cummins makes it move and sells it .

Well Bigwheel,

Sorry you don't seem to be too happy with Dodge. I suggest you look elsewhere. I'll stand by my statement... YES, I would still buy a Dodge w/o a Cummins, for example - If I was in the market for a gas truck and the choice was between the big 3 currently available, Dodge is the hands down winner, brands C & F are just downright fugly.

If dodge didn't have the cummins, but had a mercedes, I would do my research and buy the mercedes diesel if it was worthy. If the cummins was in brand f&C, I would still look at the total package and make my decision based on that. Yes the Cummins motor is great, but I would not base my entire decision just on it.

Yes there have been some problems on previous generations, do you really believe that brands F & C DID NOT have any problems with any of their trucks? Dodge has done a great job addressing some of the problems of the 2G trucks with exceptional steering and brakes to name a few.

After you purchase, the dealer is responsible for the quality of service, not the quality of the vehicle itself. I've purchased new vehicles from the same dealer for over 20 years. While they have not always been able to fix a problem the first time they have always treated me fairly and as someone they want return business from. They know the way they treat me is why I keep coming back. I'm sure all dealers are not this way but many are. When you find a good one, stick with them.

Please expand on your statement. I'd really like to understand how, knowing my situation, and knowing WHY I don't own a Dodge has anything to do with my indication of their service to their customers.

One thing you may be missing is that anyone that is looking to buy, whether they own or not, are still customers.

I'm sorry Tim, I keep forgetting that you are experienced at EVERYTHING! Again, my apologies!

I live in Long Island NY I went to 4 dealerships and all 4 Dodge dealerships were MORONS!!!!!!!!!!on my fifth try I was lucky to find a half way decent Dodge dealer. I actually paid $44,000 for the Cummins engine and nothing else because I am not brand loyal Ive owned all three trucks and of the big three diesels out there the reason I say this are they loyal to thier customers absoloutely not if they can get out of doing warranty work they will if your bring you truck in for a tsb its a major production my point being is that these trucks are very very expensive and when there is a problem it should be taken cared of in a timley manner and if your truck has to spend a few days at the dealer for warranty work you should immediately get a loaner not wait for aprroval from DC my sisters Lexus suv was the same price as our trucks but when she had a fuel pump problem she drove the her SUV to the dealer and they had a loaner car idling in the parking lot for her when she drove in with a full tank of gas!!!!! my point being the Japanese have excellent service I think the Big three should follow example.

This is my 3rd dodge cummins,96, 98. 5 ,03. and I never had a problem with service at all, first two where bought at flemington. and the last at Tallys in PT. I have nothing bad to sat about Tallys they were nice from puchase to service work. I think a lot has to do with how you first start talking to them, if you start off talking like you know everything(even though we know more about these trucks than they do)they get an attitude right away and your sunk. not saying thats what you did,but it sounds like you got off on the wrong foot from the get go. and it snowballed.

I would buy another truck from Tallys in a heart beat, another reason is the other choice in town is circle or mack dodge.

I had to reply to this customer service thing. I didn't shop dealers when I went for my second Dodge diesel (of course, I didn't let the dealer know that :) ). My first experience with Salsbury in Baton Rouge was a good one so I figured if I spent an extra $100 for the truck over another dealer, I was getting good service. I like to stay with who I know and like. As far as other places, companies spend $100,000 in advertising to tell you how good their service is and only $10 (well, not much, anyway) actually making it happen. I ran a large grocery store and was given a certain amount to spend in salaries. I hired better employees, paid them more and made out with fewer employees to meet payroll. . it worked. I am currently a trainer for a government agency with 12,000+ employees, but when one of them calls me for assistance, they're the only one I'm interested in at that time, and I make them feel like it. There's no excuse for treating a customer badly. ;)

I'm almost positive that is what happened. I went there asking for specific service to get done which may have made me come off as a 'know it all', from original purchase to the service department. I see myself as a polite professional who has specific needs and expectations. I was always polite to them and never spoke down to them. I strongly believe in treating others as I would want to be treated.

I honestly believe they are not geared to work on these diesel trucks. Oil changes, filter changes…. ok. To me it seems most of their repairs are Grandma/Grandpa coming for tire rotations and oil changes. They admitted to not having anyone there qualified to work on the Cummins and must schedule to have one brought in for anything heavier then like an oil change. I made an appt 2 weeks in advance to have my transmission and axle lube changed and after picking up the truck they said they couldn't do the transmission cause my transmission calls for a special lube which they don't normally stock. I purchased a jacobs exhaust brake when I got my truck from there. I waited 2 weeks for them to schedule a guy to come in as they can't do the install. After 2 weeks waiting I gave up and said just give me the box and I'll install myself, which I did.

Anyways, I know the General Manger and he's a great upstanding guy. Their whole team is nice. I think I just got off to a bad start with the Service Manager from the get go. I know a little history of the Service Manager before he started to work at Tallys and was told (this is coming straight from colleagues he used to work with) that he can be a little difficult and confrontational, especially if someone else knows more about the vehicle then him. That is probably what made him put up his guard and it was all downhill from there.

I also installed my own brake, and I needed a front end alignment and knew they could not do it. 4 door and 8' bed, so I called and asked where they send it. and just took it right to them. like you said they are a small mom and pop type dealer, which has its good points and bad. but I have had to many problems with those highway dealerships.

I also needed an alignment after installing the 4" Superlift and they couldn't do it. They said they usually send it out. I went down to STS tire and they also couldn't do it. Sears was the only one with an alignment lift big enough. Go figure... .

I probably would buy a Dodge with out a Cummins Diesel. Chevrolet, quit making a pickups in '87, and Ford never has built a pickup!
