For those with unhappy butts, you might look into Temper Foam. It comes in different densities. I used a three density foam seats in the airplane I built. The seats were very comfortable. But, the main reason I used them was in case of a sudden deceleration to protect my tailbone and spine. This is probably the same foam advertised in the "Temper Foam" mattress. I think it was developed by NASA. It's also used for wheel chair patients. I made a booster cushion for my airplane seat and ended up using it in my old Toyota because the seats were so darned uncomfortable.

The downside to Temperfoam is that it is expensive. Also, in cold weather it's pretty firm. It "melts" as your body heat softens it up. I suppose folks with seat heaters could heat the foam up pretty quickly.

I bought my foam from Jim Fix in Lincoln, NE. His number is 402-470-2346. I believe he can get all densities and would probably be able to advise the proper foam to fix the problem. Tell Jim that Bob Skinner said "hi".

You might want to try the foam insertion technique found in issue 35 p. 14. It took me ~1 hour to install and costs ~$10.

I purchased a 2" thick piece of foam from a fabric store.

When I was adding the foam in I found that I had broke at least 50% of the springs. Some bailing wire fixed the broken springs.

I am around 200+ #'s and drive occasionally over some pretty rough roads.

yeah i should stop eating bean burritos for breakfast :). .

What i really meant though was my seats make noises, like a rocking chair would when your rocking back and forth. The noise is coming from the base of the seat mounts. . (i believe) anyone else have this problem ? seems like whenever i hit the break or go i hear it and feel it move alittle bit. I only weight 195 - 200. anyone know what im talking about? anyone have a fix for this?

My wife discovered the Spenco-type gel pads, about 3/4 inch thick and covers the seat cushion. These are designed for wheelchairs. If you have some tender points on your butt consider these. They work very well.

Another issue is low back. Lifting the hips some with a wedge pillow (built-in lumbar support becomes an issue if you go too high) puts the curve back in your low back a little which is the best way to take bumps. When your femurs are angled up the low back "rounds out" and applies disc pressure unevenly. A full size van seat where you sit higher and legs "dangle" makes a more comfortable ride for longer time in the saddle.

I have a long-time physical training background and analyze things like this. First guy with an elevated snowmobile seat years ago! geusterman

Are all the bolts tight on the seats?
