My boss just chewed me out for not using spell check in my monthly report.

I reported that the email server ..... is running an average of 70% on the single CPU and 95% average on pages\sec on memory (512mb). Whenever the notes Group does admin work on the console the box goes BSOD. This behavior has been duplicated on similar hardware with new install of OS and notes server application. The test server received a second CPU and more memory bring the total memory to 1g the problem has not reappeared.....

I was told that BSOD does not mean anything and should have been corrected before submitting the report.

For those of you that do not know what BSOD means it stands for Blue Screen Of Death if you use Windows I'm sure you have seen at least one.

The bizarre part is I have been using the term in my monthly reports for nearly 3 years. I'm beginning to think the Dilbert comic series is written about my boss.

BSOD=Blue Screen of Death whch iz a reel werd!

We get chewed out at work for the same thing. But if we misspell words on contract drawings it sure is embarassing!

(BSOD sure does put the fear of God in a body! AHh... When did I save last?)

"If one of my employees did that to me, he had better have his next job lined up. "

Not if you were wrong to begin with.

If my boss fired me because I proved him wrong, I'd be happy to go work for someone else... . or even better - work for myself doing something different.

I prove my boss wrong daily. I have proved most of my boss wrong over the years.

I have also been a manager and learned a good manager knows how to accept that fact they ain't always right and is respected by there employees for being fair not firing at will.

I'm not talking about being proven wrong, having my position respectfully challenged, etc. I have no problem with that at all.

What I'm talking about is the attitude expressed in that statement. One does NOT walk into a superior's office and tell him/her to take a long walk off of a short pier, to eat dirt and die, to pound salt or anything else in that vein - at least any superior to whom I ever reported. It's called insubordination, and in the oil patch it'll get you a quick trip to the front door. Oh, and I've been in management for 25+ years, so I have a pretty good idea of what works and what doesn't.

Speaking of spell check...

I was going through all the mylar and paper copy architectural, floor plans, landscape, etc drawings at work today (building gen ops) and noticed on the front it said "Final Constuction Documents"

Sometimes it is needed, but I believe you did nothing wrong.

Sheesh... .

Joe D yelled at me here for that same exact thing just a week ago or so... ... .   ... ... . Andy

So I guess telling your boss to 'go fly a kit in a lightening storm' is out of the question as well? :)

I didn't mean that literally... I have always had to use some tact when proving my bosses wrong... or when I respectfully disagree with them.

I give respect where it is due, but am far from a brown noser... . there's way too much of that stuff around here these days.

Bosses

I'll have to say that almost every boss I ever had, was a swell guy with a SWELLED head!!!!!!!!!!!

Glad the only one I have now rules my house, & for the most part, if she gets stupid, I just ignore her. "LIFE IS GOOOD":D

if you work with dos/windows based computers you definately should know the term "three finger salute". wonder what that looks like in grammer check?

ya know - ctrl-alt-del. :D

My boss got frustrated with me the other day when he handed me two pages of policy he wrote. He asked me to read it for suggestions. The grammer and content was pretty poor so I rewrote it to make it more acceptable to all the employees it will affect (I have no tolerance for poor grammer in a professional work place).

He got mad and said I missed the point and was way out in left field. I did not do what he asked me.

In protest I advised he had all the right ideas but presented it poorly. Guess he didn't like someone grading his work! I actually thought I'd help him out too. Backfired on me.

Mebbe he wanted you to correct his grammAr! :D

He was probably ****** off that he didn't know what BSOD was. I've used cunning and subterfuge to show one of my "supervisors" what a BSOD was. Someone had to rebuild her computer.

Just tell him he needs to RTFM to initiate the elimination of the FEU, and that in fact the original issue was a Receive-End PEBCAK.

If you can't dazzle him with intelligence, baffle him with BullS(*&^!

I love TLA's!

I completely agree. "Back in the day" saying that to your boss, in the oil patch, would also earn you a pop knot big enough from which to hang a spare tire. :D
