2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Brake pad replacement??????

I looked at my front break pads through the inspection port on the caliper last night. Well, I looked at the 'inner' pad, as the outer was blocked by the rotor. The pad is still about 1/4" to 3/8" thick after 55,000 miles! I'm used to replacing brakes every 20k or so. I'm not complaining, just strange.

It sure doesn't bother me much. I have 87k on my orignal set and from the way it looks they will go to 100k+. A fair amount of highway miles though.

Same here. I had mine checked at 95k and still at 40%. Tech said I could probably get to 140k. I do drive conservatively and use the exhaust brake when towing.

You guys are lucky. Mine fell apart at 42000. One of the pads got stuck between rotor and caliper body. Not just one was falling apart but most of them.

Here is my solution... ... Drive faster, and decelerate much quicker, that is sure to use those pads right up:D

Just kidding of course, im at 44k and they look like new still

I changed out my original front pads at 80k, and put on a set of "lifetime" pads from some auto parts store. I have almost 140k on them & the're getting thin, but not ready to change yet. Had the rotor's cleaned up once. The original rear shoes went 150k, & when I changed them (a 2500 4X2) I put on the bigger 3500 cylinders. I get more braking effort on the rear now, So the front's should last even longer. I always engine brake when I slow down, using my 3 pos. lock up switch when I drive 100%, & have lots of hiway miles.
