truck started running bad, falling on its face. Started shift in and out of overdrive sounded like it was going to die. Seemed to clear out, but check engine light stays on and when i get into it sputters. Have i fallen victim to a lift pump? 44,300 miles 2001 dodge ram 24 valve:{
 
I would sure ck your fuel pressure before you drive it any further! You will damage your inj pump by starving it on fuel. When did you chg your fuel filter last? Did you just get some fuel from a different source? Get a clean glass jar and take a fuel sample at your filter. Ck for crud or water.
 
i just changed the fuel filter about 3 weeks ago, I have been using a different fuel this week, simply because i haven't been near my usual place that i get it. It is busy truck stop. If that would be the problem how do i get the check engine light to go off? I did drain the filter a couple of times and as soon as i flipped the lever liquid started gushing out. I didn't get a look as to what it looked like since it was dark out. it starts and runs fine but if i mash down on the pedal it will puke a little bit and then clear out. I do notice the tack bobs up and down a little as it idles. It seems around here this time of year i do get crappy fuel a lot no matter where i go. I get a lot of water too and i do run stanadyne in my truck, every time i get fuel i dump some in.

Gary, I would still ck the fuel pressure ASAP before you drive it anymore. You still are under warranty as far as the engine and fuelsystem are concerned. Take any "Gadgets" off before you go to DC for a ck up. If you have access to a portable fuel pressure guage, Ck the pressure at pre filter and at the inj pump. Good Luck... . Let Us know what they or you find. Chris
 
i just flashed the codes, i have a primary fuel pump, turbo and waste gate circuit malfunction. Check engine light went off on its own. I am going to take in tomorrow.

Primary fuel pump sounds like the transfer pump to me.



Remember, the transfer pump is first in line to the engine. Without adequite fuel supply, the inj pump can't do its job. If the inj pump can't make power because of lack of fuel, then the turbo won't spool up because the quantity of exaust pressure isn't there. The waste gate won't do its thing because there isn't enough fuel to work the inj pump properly, which won't spin up the turbo enough to cause the boost pressure to build up enough to open the waste gate:eek: :eek: CLEAR AS MUD!!!
