I like the smoked clearance lights, but I don't like the price. I had heard that some had issues with leaking. My factory ones aren't leaking so I made my own smoked lights.

~3 coats Krylon crystal color and 2 coats Krylon Crystal clear. About $7 worth of paint at Wally World.

I like the results so far. I may do my tail lights and/or my head lights too.

Nice looking job. What was the prep to keep the paint from peeling off??? Sanding, etching, bleaching or all the above. TIA

Jim

Roughed up with Green Scotch Bright pad, 1 coat adhesion promoter, 3 coats Crystal color, 2 coats crystal clear.

The other set that I have I tried to flake it off and it doesn't flake. When I scratched it with a sharp object I could use my finger nail and work some off. I don't think it is going to come off very easy. I don't know how much debris gets up there anyway. Time will tell I like them so far.

Robert,

My thoughts exactly! It would take all the worry out of the scratching etc. However, nice job. I like the look. Good price too.

It would be really hard to get a good coat of paint on the inside of the lens and I don't think that that would have given me the look I was going for. It would have darkened the lens but I wanted the Black look not the orange look. I don't think it will come off very easy and I don't plan on "sand blasting" my truck enough to notice a nick on a lens on the top of my truck.

But... I am sure this paint would work on the inside if that is what someone wanted to do. I will try it with a spare lens.

I am sure that will work too, I had never seen that before.

As for painting the inside of the lights, it would look fine, but in order for a person to coat the inside of the lens the two pieces would have to be separated. That is not as easy as it sounds. I tried for a little while and gave up.

I may have to get some of the VHT nite shade and compare the two products.

It has been about a year on my lights and they have lost their color. They look like I had never done the paint. Not sure if it was the product or... . ? Does anyone have an update on how theirs turned out after using the VHT nightshade paint?
Thanks

I had been waiting for your test results. . then completely forgot about it. In fact I had forgotten the name of the product I was interested in. Thanks for bringing this back up.
