was hit last week by a highway dept snow plow and totalled. Went shopping for a new one, couldn't find one setup the way i wanted, no time to wait and order one. Bought a chevy Duramax/Allison off dealer's lot. Loved my Dodge/Cummins. . love the Chevy. Hope the Duramax holds up like my Cummins. Two great trucks.

Jeff

had 97 Dodge 2500 reg cab 4x4 auto, now have 01 Chev/Duramax/Allison 4x4 ext cab

Very sorry to hear that. After you get a few miles on the Dmax, let us all know how you feel the two compare. Just out of curiousity, what's going to become of your old Cummins?

98. 5 2500, 24v, QC, 4x4, 4. 10 LSD, short bed, Line-X liner, tow package, camper suspension, Westin nerfs, camper shell, TST PowerMax3, 275 RVs, EGT/Boost pillar gauges... Love my Cummins, no love for Dodge

Good luck with the new truck! Sorry to hear DC could not help you fast enough

ditto on the question about where the wreck is going/gone??

Good luck with your new truck! I think competition in the industry is a good thing. I also hope you will post occasionally regarding how your new Duramax is working out, particularly on quality, reliability, and mpg issues.

insurance company took it away, probably sold for salvage. engine wasn't touched. Will keep you guys posted on Duramax/Allison

i drove a duramax last week for the first time. the salesman wouldn't stop bragging about how great and fast the truck was. so when we got back i let him take my truck for a spin. all i can say is he was pretty much speachless! i liked the truck but had to admit to the saleman i was just waisting his time because i'm not in the market for a new truck.

Have 550 miles on Chevy D/A 4X4 ext. cab short bed. First impressions compared to my 97 Dodge/Cummins 12valve 4X4 auto reg. cab long bed are as follows:

First the engine starts easily in 27 degree weather WITHOUT being plugged in. It runs smoothly with very little warm-up as compared to my Dodge. It does stay in lower gears until it warms up some. Also have cab heat sooner than expected. The engine is quiet. Everything is laid out real nice for routine service. Both oil filter & fuel filter are easily accessible. The priming pump is right on top of fuel filter/separator housing, easy to get at.

The Allison transmission is unbelievable. Dodge needs one. Nothing else to say here.

The truck itself rides great. A lot smoother than my Dodge (although it’s still brand new). Probably due to independent front suspension. Also the steering is solid and precise, the Dodge had some wander in steering.

Have no real mileage figures as of yet. I’ll post as soon as I have some. I’m anxiously waiting to see myself. Problem is, it is hard to resist punching it once in a while.
