I "just" bought my 98 2500 12V (2) days ago and have driven it less than 100 miles so far.

Granted I haven't driven it much and do NOT yet know the characteristics of it. But running out of power around 2200 RPMs does NOT seem to be "Normal" to me. Other than that, the engine PULLS like a Mother up until then!

The only power mods I know the previous owner did was a TST Torque Plate, open 4" single exhaust, and something about removing the Waste Gate spring. He did mention it "could" use bigger injectors.

What could be going on here ??

TIA!

strictly going on what i've learned on this site and the suggestions of the folks here, injectors is what you need to gain high rpm power. i'm looking into this same upgrade now but there are some subteties to it.

Governor spring kit (GSK) 3k or 4k you will love driving the truck after you install them. with the 3k kit mine will pull hard two about 3100 with stock injectors. before the kit 2200 was about all it had. I got mine from Peirs (PDR)

What number of plate do you have? do you know? That will tell you how much of a horsepower upgrade you have. Whats happening is the plate gives you more horsepower than stock but the stock governor springs start to pull the fuel back at about 2,200rpm, what you are feeling is the engine defuel from the stock springs where down low you get alot of fuel from the plate. Possibly the afc spring is what he meant he removed because i see no point in removing the wastegate spring, all that would do is make you get no boost at all. depending on how much horsepower you want from the truck will determine what governor springs to go with.

I get power to 2500rpm on my 98 with the #6 plate, but my 95 poops out at about 2100 with the #6. I have read on here that the #6 doesn't work well with the GSK. If I had it to do over I would probably go #10 and GSK because towing I could run over 70 in "D" when I need the power. Once I do the transmission, I don't think I will need to worry about gearing down with the #6 but it causes my OE transmission to slip on hills in OD towing at 24# boost.

I don't know. The dealer at the Stealership called him just after I signed the papers. It was a rather "hurried" conversation because the Stealership was getting ready to close.

I "think" the previous owner said it now has 280HP after the Mods.

Looking at TST's site, it seems my CTD has a #11 Torque Plate(280HP/680TQ).

What size Governor Spring and Injectors should I go with ??

You don't need injectors yet. go with springs and make sure you have good fuel pressure. you already have more power then your stock transmission or clutch can hold. what do you have auto or stick? then you might want injector if you still need more power but you might be happy with a plate and governor lever adjustment and springs. Springs what do you want to do with the truck? I put the 3k kit in mine and love it.

I agree so far. Spring kit first. With the 98, that pump will deliver most all you need. If you don't want smokeing HP, be sure you have a #11 plate and 3000 rpm spring kit. I have a #10 plate and honed 215 injectors, and the power will pull right through the 4500. Oh yeah, don't let the engine lug with the 4500. It does not like that at all. That helps the fifth gear nut to go "nuts".

And as to the power leaving you at 2200, it's governed to stop at 2600 anyway. The spring kit will take care of that. You may have a little timing issue, also. I would say set it to 18-20 degrees. 16* is for girls.

. . Preston. .

I put a 3k GSK on my 96' 5spd. It pulled hard to 3200rpm and beyond. I typically stopped at 3000rpm. Never bothered to find the limits of the 3k. I've heard the auto needs the gsk worse than the 5spd. My now sold 96' with custom grind plate and Gsk would outpull my 06'.

Auto's SUCK without a GSK... Mine Pulls like a monster to 2200rpm and then the governors start defueling... It will rev out to about 2600 but the boost and power are gone long before that.

I can't wait to get a transmission in this truck.....

Just had the 3K GSK installed and all I can say is "WOW" !!!!!!!!! It pulls HARD way up to 3200 RPMS!! The torque is unreal!!! :D

Woke my truck up something fierce!!!

This is a "MUST DO" first mod IMHO!!
