My first emissons test

She's almost 6 years old now and tags are due next month. Went to the emissions station for the first time. Took three tries to line me up on the rollers (wide hips) then could not get thier equipment to work for the opacity test. Held up the line for five minutes. What a joke. Had me pull out and back into a unused bay, another few tries to line it up. Still no go. After some more equipment cart changes the screen finally says put your speed in the white zone and hold it. Easier said than done. With the Smarty on 8 and comp on 3x1. Ease into the peddle and shifts 1-2-3 to 60mph, ease off and down to 30. Back onto the peddle like there was an egg under it and back up to 60. The Smarty is very sensitive on the rollers. Took at least 30 seconds to get it into the white zone and hold it.



Final results. Standard 30. 0 Reading 3. 4, what a joke.



After I got my pass slip asked if they could do a dyno run. After $12. 50 and ten minutes in the bays figured I might be able to get something out of it. She just goes Whats a dyno. Never mind.

Yes, I actually thought about that as I was leaving, but just as a fantasy in my mind. Couldn't really do that to those people who had to wait so long behind me.

The test is nothing more than a wallet drainer. The last time I went through an old Mercedes 240D was in front of me. He was blowing smoke rings at idle! The whole place filled with smoke when he revved up. He passed. If you talk to the techs, they say people fail all the time. I don't buy it.
