Just a little added sucurity

I mainly put the peace of PVC in it for a little peace of mind (a very little peace cause I don't have much to start with:p ) It's a 3" coupling is what you need I cut mine in half so you cant see it when it's clamped together. :D The coupling is only about 50 or 80 cents at the hardware store so go get one just to be safe. Wouldn't you hate for that Hummin Cummins to get a little dirt in it. :{

Sky, what's the Cummins part number; I'm back in the UK at the end of this month and may get around to an airfilter upgrade, which has been on my list of things to do for ages... ... .

I will have to go out and check in the morning, I cant remember off hand. Its AH... ..... something. Also if you tell them at cummins you want napa #2790 they can cross reference it to the same filter. Thats what I did.

The Fleetguard number is; AH19037, $37. 12 out the door at Cummins NW in Renton, Wa.

Well looks like that piece of PVC pipe is neccesary. When I first put my BHAF in last fall,it did come loose a few times, but it seemed to stop. Well, noticed today it is off again. It scares me to wonder how long it has been off.

Anyone with the Wix/Napa filter done the pvc thing?

How does it work? Do you just put the thing inside the neck and just make the hose clamp smash the plastic on the filter down to the size of the pipe inside that? I don't get it. The plastic on the filter is too stiff for that.

If you are worried about the hose coming off the BHAF flange put 4 or 6 drops of hot glue or epoxy about 1/4 inch from the from the edge of the filter flange. Real small drops, not more than 1/8 high. Let the stuff harden, test it to insure a good bond then side the intake hose over the "grip bumps" and attach with the stock hose clamp. I have run mine like this for several months with no problems. :)

Guys - I was in the camp that said the PVC pipe inside the filter wasn't necessary. 6 months and 20,000 miles later I found it had popped out of the intake tube and I had been running with no filtration sometime between the last fillup and that one (I check under the hood every fillup). DEFINATELY put something in there to stiffen up that neck. I had watched the posts and thought guys were being paranoid. Trust me it's not worth the stress from seeing that you were sucking in unfiltered air for you don't know how long for a piece of PVC that costs at most a couple of bucks.

Mine has been in about 10,000 miles with no inside pipe and hasnt come off yet, its a Baldwin filter and I used the stock clamp. EGT and smoke are both down

Cheers Tracy, I'll talk to my local Cummins dealership tomorrow, quoting this part number and get one on order. If it's anything like the Cummins red valve cover and head gasket, it'll be almost twice the price, when it gets to Europe.

Apart from the additional mounting support mentioned in this thread, I was wondering if there were any other threads, showing pictures before, during and after, in the style of Dave Fritz?

Wix filter

What is the p/n of the wix filter. . Does it have a steel mesh around it. I priced one approx 32. Do you need to put a stiffener in it. Does that restrict the air flow. tia:confused:

Mallory Mount

Anybody have a picture and/or a link for the Mallory Mount? Ever since I put in the 275 injectors and the boost module the filter minder has been moveing even with a new stock filter. The hummin Cummins needs more air!:D

Ignor this post. I have a bad habit of asking before I search. It's amazing what you can find out if you just look.

Napa 2790 $39 or $42 forgot which

fleetguard AH19037 $38

Cummins 3924541 $??

Donaldson ECB15006 $34

Balwin PA2820 $27

Wix #42790

BHAF:

Installed mine this am. That's a big a$$ filter didn't do the pvc. Instead of the hot glue trick I used #8 pan head screws ( 2) . I'll let you know how they work out. Couldn't wait for the mount.

Here is the latest.....

Added this to the BHAF. Now I have a washable pre filter and no oil. Best of both worlds. I attached the label from it for those of you who want more info. It's also water repelent for those of you with that worry.

Label comes out OK on mine.......

Wonder why the pic works and not the label. I scanned it in the same format. Oh Well!!

Here's the skinny. Outerwears is the company that makes the prefilter. They claim filtration to . 005 microns. It's water repellent not water proof. Should stop any inadvertant splashing, although I've had mine in since last September and been through plenty and it never got wet. It's washable with soap and water so the BHAF should never get really dirty. They say no significant loss of horsepower, I can say I haven't seen any boost difference since installing it. Then again I'm just a whimpy 300 HP. :D

Part #'s

Fleetgaurd AH-19037 air filter

Outerwears WR3325-105 (Several colors available)

1 800 967-3450

Oh yeah -- I have no affiliation with either company. Just thought I'd share what I have done.
