Off Roading Which Suspension System is Right for me?

I know you guys get this all the time, but I did search and didn't find...

I am pulling with a STOCK (stock exhaust even) '01 6-speed with gauges and edge drag comp, which I obviously will not thave cranked up. It's got 2/3 worn 33" x 12. 50 BFG Mud Terrains on it - my other tire choice is 1/2 worn GY MTRs 33" x 10. 50. Any suggestions other than get a hitch and set it up as high as possible?

I guess I'm looking for what gear to pull in, and anything regarding RPM, clutch/throttle technique, etc.

Well... . Being I dont' have a manual... . I can only offer the advise I've read. 4low, and from what I have read most guys run 3rd gear. If your clutch isn't junk yet... it probably will be by the end of the pull. Stock clutches... heck even other clutches hate life pulling. I know the big boys run the engine up, and slowly enguage the clutch... . by about 75 feet you should have the clutch ALL the way out. As far as tire choice..... it depends on the track. You dont' want wheel hop. Depending on your power... . which won't be a crazy ammount, I'd run the more "street" tire of the 2.

Personally... . I'd throw the More aggressive tires on the truck in your signature and pull with that!

I would pull w/ mine, but my turbo is just way too small (new one on the way) - it pegs the pyro by the time you count to 3 in 1st gear. That - and my convertor clutch is junk (speaking of which - do you guys w/ switches lock them when you pull?). Maybe later in the year I'll have a convertor and some ladder bars for it...

Anyway, do you think the stock clutch will hold up @ 5x5 on the box? What about EGTs with stock intake and exhaust? How long can you sustain 1250+ (pre-turbo) w/o damage? I know from my own truck it's at least 5-10 seonds (so far)...

I plan on putting a much better pulling clutch in it later, but I just had to come up w/ $1000 down, plus another $1500 for gauges, a pusher pump, the drag comp, shocks, and ball joints. My reserves are little too obliterated to go drop $2K on a clutch next month...

Put duct tape over the EGT gauge, and forget about it.

Stock clutch, try about a 20" hitch, and 245 all seasons. Try to slip it as little as possible.

last year in the bedford, pa fair i pulled 3rd gear 4 low... . my first hook went very well. on a stock setup i was marked at 212 ft...

good luck and let us know how it goes.

Pyro... Don't worry about it! Both my pulls... just for grins... I looked... . 1600+ Then last fall I had to do a headgasket..... the engine looks great. No issues.

I pull with my auto, I do not lock the converter. You are dealing with fairly low speeds. I let mine go up to 3rd gear in low range. You don't want to be shifting with a locked converter and stock shafts with that much weight and pull behind you. I build a little boost off the line and let the sled start rolling. I ease into the throttle till my foot is on the floor. Once it's down, it stays down, till the guy with the flag starts waving the red one. :-laf

josh you should really look out for that sand trap at 175' will get you every time! but as far as the pulling goes i'd pull in 3rd and you should have it to the floor by 75' at the latest. make sure you watch and see what the other trucks and or tractors are doing and where there going on the track as that can make a big diffrence.

what they said!!!

3rd gear low, COMP on kill, slip the clutch as little as possible, and put it to the wood!!!

Don't even think of looking at the pyro, you will just scare yourself!!!

If she starts to hop, first hop is a warning, seccond hop carnage is imminent, third hop stuff comes apart!!!

Report?

How'd it go?

And to reiterate--the pyro is for testing, tuning, and towing. It is of no concern during actual competition :-laf .
