I have been running the "Sylvania Performance" HID look alikes, I forget the model name,however,... They aren't blue, just super bright. I just washed the truck today and wiped the dirty lenses off and WOW I forgot how bright and WHITE they really are. they weren't cheap though about 25 bux a piece from autozone/carquest et al.

Try the Hella "E-code", and you will never look back. They say for "off road" use only. I have used these since 1973 and have never been bothered by law enforcement. They have been in all of my trucks, until I got the 95. Bulbs, not

sealed unit. I have these in the wife's Wrangler, my Cherokee, (winter driver), and I even bought a pair for the

truck I drive at work, IH 4700. They have a replaceable

bulb, and in all of the years, I think I replaced one bulb.

You can check them, & other lights out at, www.rallylights.com By the way, the "E" stands for Europe

and they are way ahead of us when it comes to vehicle lighting...

I have sylvania halogen lights. I bought them from schucks for around $25 each. They're definitely bright enough. Have you aligned your lights recently? If your front end is sagging like my 91 was, your beams may just be too low. Also, my old lights had some dirt and moisture buildup inside the "sealed beam".

I've got the Hella "E" code headlamps in my 91, and soon I'll be doing the same in my 93. BEST lighting upgrade I've ever done to any of my vehicles. The are called Hella Vision, NOT the Vision Plus street legal version. They have a very sharp cutoff to keep the glare from irritating oncoming drivers. Law enforcement has never messed with me about it.

Do you have a part number? I can't figure out which you were using in the first gen.

I replaced mine recently with the super blues from walmart, for sure better, but when my lights are on low beams even before the change they seemed to be way low, is there a trick for resetting to where i don't feel like im only seeing pavement out to about 6-8 feet on low beam... even on high they don't brighten up the area ahead like they should.

I'll second using relays - hands down the answer.

The problem isn't the bulb, it's because the 14 volts coming into the dash harness and out to the headlights is subdued down to around 11 volts. The switch and dash wiring rob the votage and the lights will be dim no matter which bulb in in front. Check out this thread about installing relays - no doubt I'm going this route on every old car I have (4 of 'em).

for the second generation trucks a company called suvlights.com offers an amplified wiring harness for you trucks. Its an incredible difference. I have the harness in my 98.

I went out and turned on my headlights, and then ran a jumper wire from the high beam to the battery (+) terminal. Definite difference. I thought "I'll just flip them on high and see how big a difference there is. " They WERE on high . So, I installed the relay, and I now have high beams on a par with the 04 Dakota. Oo. I had to run the 2nd 87 wire from the relay to the right side high beam wire, naturally, but that was the only thing that didnt go super smooth. Well, actually, it was when I cut the wire going to the right side. I left plenty of slack, just on the firewall end, not the wiring end.
